Reading Workshop Reading Workshop Your child will be bringing home 2 library books per week to read. Mini Lessons Flexible Reading Groups Please make sure your child returns books promptly on Library day. Daily Five Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, Word Work, & Meet with Teacher
Word Study and Vocabulary Word Study and Vocabulary Skills we will be working on: Identifying spelling patterns Use spelling patterns in everyday writing What to look for: Example of words and the patterns they follow Children will be assessed in the form of dictation sentences Word Study units will focus on student s identifying and applying word patterns in everyday writing.
Writing Curriculum Writing Curriculum The Writing Process: Brainstorm and Plan Write a Sloppy Copy Conference Revise & Edit Publish & Celebrate Types of Writing: Narrative Informative-Research Opinion Friendly Letter All published pieces will be sent home in June.

Rocket Math Rocket Math Rocket Math is a research- based individualized program that promotes fluency and accuracy of math facts. The students will practice regularly at home and school. We will begin this program in October and your child will be required to practice facts for 3 minutes as part of their homework.
Science and Social Studies Science and Social Studies Curriculum Curriculum Throughout the year, your child will participate in hands-on activities as well as finding information through reading books in Science and Social Studies. Homework Homework Homework will be given on a nightly basis Monday through Thursday. Homework Have your child read for 15-20 minutes each night. Rocket Math to begin in October Each individual teacher will assign homework according to the needs of their class.
Classroom Management Classroom Management Positive Reinforcement: Verbal praise Clip Chart/Class Dojo Discipline: Points/Verbal Praise are used to encourage good choices. Please initial daily behavior sheet/view your child s progress on Class Dojo You will be contacted if your child clips down to Parent Contact or receives multiple negative points
School Wide Effective Behavior School Wide Effective Behavior System System U-Use kind words and actions The UNITY program will teach every child the school rules and expected behaviors that will apply throughout the entire building. N-Need to keep hands, feet, and objects to ourselves I-I will follow directions the first time given T-Take ownership of our actions and learning Y- Yield and walk silently throughout our school
Celebrating Birthdays Celebrating Birthdays You may send in a treat on the day of your child s birthday, but please notify us prior via email or note. If your child s birthday falls on a weekend, you can send a treat in on Friday or Monday. Please make the treat NUT FREE. napkins and/or paper plates for the treat. Summer Birthdays will be celebrated on the child s half birthday unless the half birthday falls over winter break. NUT FREE. Please send in napkins and/or paper plates
Snack Time Snack Time We will have snack in the morning. Please provide a NUT FREE healthy, dry snack. NUT FREE, Please provide a water bottle. No juice or milk. Water bottles MUST sports cap sports cap to prevent spills. MUST have a
Communication Communication Sickness If your child is sick and cannot attend school, please call the attendance line at 610-369-7518, to report your child absent. Our school day runs from 8:45 to 3:25. If you are going to request homework, please do so before noon. Vacation If you plan on taking a vacation during the school year, please fill out a trip form and return it to the office for approval. Each teacher will send home an activity for your child to complete during this time.
Report Card Report Card Use numbers 1,2,3, & 4 as indicators of skill mastery 3 is proficient, this is where we expect your child to be 2 is approaching the expected skill Report card skills are aligned with Common Core Standards, therefore the report cards look slightly different this year. Please keep in mind each quarter the skills become more rigorous.
