Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term Two Year 2 Class Teacher Miss N Seabright Thank you for your continued support Religious Education RE topic this half term - The First Christians The First Christians In this unit the children will learn about how the Holy Spirit helped the Apostles and think of ways we can be like them. We will learn about the first Christians. We will find out about how Jesus was able to help Peter and John and learn that we can trust Jesus to help us. The children will be able to recall that the Holy Spirit was able to help the Apostles and learn how the Holy Spirit helps us. Finally the children will know about Peter s escape from prison and reflect on what we can learn from it. How to help at home: Talk with you child about things they can do to help people in need. Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term Two English Writing: Focus text (Non-Fiction): In this unit we will read a non-fiction text about reptiles. We will explore: an information report, using a mind map to record information, recognise how headings help the reader and learn about non-chronological texts. We will discover more about verbs and tenses, and how adjectives are used in expanded noun phrases in non-fiction texts. Writing: Focus text (Non-fiction): Cobweb Morning by June Crebbin. We will explore: writing a new poem based on a model. We will look at and discuss the structure of verses and the impact of tight, accurate choice of vocabulary and sentence structure in poems and punctuation. Spellings: In spelling we will look at words that use the possessive apostrophe, words ending in tion, the sound spelled s as in television, and suffixes ment, ness, ful, less and ly. Reading Comprehension Text: Horrid Henry (Fiction) Prediction The Hundred-Mile- An- Hour Dog (Fiction) Word meaning The Darkest Dark (Fiction) Word Meaning Dogs in Space (Fiction) Retrieval Perfectly Norman (Fiction) Inference Sir Charlie Stinky Socks: The Really Big Adventure (Fiction) Sequencing How to help at home: Ask questions about the stories you read. Can your child recall and retrieve information from the story to answer them. Maths In Maths, this half term the children will be learning how to look at describing movements and turns using the correct terminology and vocabulary, along with making patterns with shapes. In our second unit of work we will be looking at Time. This will cover o clock and half past times, quarter past and quarter to, finding durations of time and comparing durations of time. How to help at home: Play games where you give one another directions to get to an object or create maps giving directions of movement. Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term Two Science History Our Science topic for this half term is Little Master Chefs. This topic explores food, including making healthy food choices, and cooking various different foods. In this unit the children will find out and describe the basic needs of humans for survival and be able to describe the importance of eating the right amounts of different types of food. Our History topic for this half term is Local Heroes. In this unit the children will learn about the lives of some of the most significant people in the history of our locality. This unit will support the children in gaining an understanding of the breadth of contributions people can make in order to become significant. How to help at home: Encourage your child to do some research on Emmeline Pankhurst and why she became a significant person. How to help at home: Encourage your child to help you prepare a healthy meal. PE Music Real PE Unit 5 & 6 The unit of work this half term consolidates the learning that has occurred during the year. All the learning is focused around revisiting songs and musical activities. In this unit, the children will develop and apply their sending and receiving and reaction and response through focused skill development sessions, cooperative and competitive games. How to help at home: Talk about which genre of music your child likes most. Can they explain why? PE is Wednesday and Friday Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school. Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term Two DT In DT this half term the children will be exploring Wheels and Axles. We will explore and use wheels, axles and axle holders. We will learn to distinguish between fixed and freely moving axles. How to help at home: Encourage your child to make a product that moves. This could be with Lego or any other construction materials you have available. Computing PHSE This half term in PSHE we will be learning about having high aspirations in our unit Aiming High. We will start by discussing positive views of ourselves and will then identify how a positive attitude can help us tackle and achieve new learning challenges and improve learning outcomes. In computing this half term we will be using the Scratch Jr app to write our own block code in a number of different projects. How to help at home: Allow your child to build up on their confidence in computing by playing on games either or on an ipad or a computer at home . How to help at home: Talk to your child about the term aspirations and what it means to aim high.
