Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One Year 2 Class Teacher Miss N Seabright Thank you for your continued support Religious Education RE topic this half term - Eastertide Eastertide In this unit the children will learn how Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter Sunday and have the opportunity to reflect on what this tells us about Jesus. They will learn about Jesus appearing to the disciples and reflect on what this was like for them. The children will learn about what happened after the Resurrection, and learn how the Apostles received the Holy Spirit. Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One English Writing: Focus text (Fiction): Magic Boots by Ian Macdonald. We will explore: Story structure, conjunctions, suffixes and punctuation. Writing: Focus text (Non-Fiction): In this unit we will read a non-fiction text about reptiles. We will explore: an information report, using a mind map to record information, recognise how headings help the reader and learn about non-chronological texts. We will discover more about verbs and tenses, and how adjectives are used in expanded noun phrases in non-fiction texts. Spellings: During this unit, In spelling our focus again will be on the Year 2 common exception words along with words ending in ey . Reading Comprehension Text: The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark (Fiction) Mixed Skills The Twits (Fiction) Mixed Skills The Twits (Fiction) Mixed Skills Little Red Riding Hood (Fiction) Mixed Skills Little Red Riding Hood (Fiction) Mixed Skills Seaside Town (Non-Fiction)- Mixed Skills How to help at home: Talk about books, stories, words and pictures. Encourage your child to make predictions about what they think might happen at the end of the story. Maths In Maths, this half term, we will look at Statistics. In this unit, the children will learn how to make tally charts, draw and interpret pictograms along with block diagrams. In the second part of this half term we will be looking at fractions. The children will learn to make equal parts, recognising and finding a half and a quarter, recognising and finding a third, finding three quarters and counting in fractions. Year Two Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One Science Geography Our Geography unit this half term is Our Wonderful World. In this unit, the children will bring together the ideas introduced in the previous KS1 units. This is designed to enhance and solidify their geographical general knowledge. It will also give them an appreciation of the world by introducing natural and man-made wonders, as well as ancient and modern wonders. Our Science topic for this half term is Young Gardeners. This topic brings together the study of living things and habitats and is strongly focused on outdoor learning and investigations. In this unit the children will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. They will find out and describe how plant needs water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. How to help at home: Can your child create a poster this could be done on the computer showing some natural and manmade geographical features. How to help at home: Try planting some seeds of your own and watch them grow! Music PE This half term, in Music we will be learning a song about being friends. As well as singing and accompanying the song with musical instruments, we will explore pulse, rhythm and pitch. In addition, we will listen to, and evaluate, the work of other songs about friendship. Real PE Unit 3 & 4 In this unit, the children will develop and apply their dynamic balance on a line and stance through focused skill development sessions, cooperative and competitive games. How to help at home: Talk with your child about how we can be kind to our friends. Listen to other songs about friendship such as Count on Me by Bruno Mars, You Give a Little Love from Bugsy Malone. This pathway gives pupils the opportunity to explore architecture. We will start with an exploration of architects and some of the ways they work before moving on to create our own architectural models. How to help at home: Research some iconic buildings and discuss the materials used to construct them. PHSE Computing In this unit, children will continue to explore what algorithms are and what strategies they can use to find bugs when their algorithm is not working. This half term we will be looking at Living in the Wider World. We will learn about the different local and global communities that we are part of and what rights and responsibilities come with belonging to these communities. How to help at home: Talk about internet safety when using the internet on devices at home. How to help at home: encourage your child to think about some of the communities in which they belong.
