Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One Year 1 Class Teacher Mrs P Woodhouse Thank you for your continued support Religious Education Our RE topic this half term- The Resurrection The Resurrection-Know that we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Know that Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter Sunday. The children will learn that Jesus appeared to his disciples and will think about the times when they have experienced great joy and surprise. They will learn that Jesus helped his disciples to understand that he was risen from the dead and was with them (John 21: 9- 14) and this made them very happy. They will learn that when Thomas heard that Jesus was alive he did not believe it. They will also become aware that sometimes, like Thomas, we don t understand what is happening. How to help at home: Talk to your child about the Resurrection? How do we celebrate Easter? Encourage your child to think surprises, especially when sad news turns into good news. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One English Writing Focustext (Non-fiction): Going Swimming In this unit, children will: read a first person recount text; discussing organisation; explore and and but as words that join sentences; look at verb suffixes ed and ing ; identify how capital letters are used; box up the model text to write a recount text aboutgetting ready for PE. Writing Focustext (Non-fiction): How to Draw a Friendly Ant In this unit children will: read a simple instruction text and follow the instruction to draw an ant; identify organisation and sequencing words; recognise that commands are types of sentences; find out that commandverbs are different from other verb forms;plan and write and instructionaltextto draw a fish. Spelling: revision of sounds from Spring term, units 4-8; revision of sounds from Spring term, units 9-12; Year 1 commonexceptionwords; letter strings tch ; adding s and es . Reading: Jack and the Beanstalk (Fiction) Retrieval; My Two Grannies (Fiction) Inference; Grandad Mandela (Non-Fiction)Word Meaning; Rigby Star individual reading text will be used for differentiationand SEN. How to help at home: Read with your child every night and sign reading record book. Encourage your child to complete their homework each week, which will link with the grammar focus in English lessons. Maths In Maths, this half term, we will be doing three units of work, Multiplication and Division . Children will continue to build on their previous knowledge of counting in multiples of 2s, 5s and 10s and go beyond 50, up to 100. They will be applying their 2s, 5s, and 10 times table facts to make equal groups, add equal groups, make arrays, make doubles, make equal groups grouping, make equal groups sharing. We will then introduce a unit of work on Fractions . In fractions, children explore finding a half and a quarter using shapes and sets of objects. They will use the vocabulary half and whole . Finally we will revisit a unit of work on Geometry , focussing on Position and Direction . The children will be doing practical activities to understand how to describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three quarter turn. How to help at home: Encourage your child to practice their 2s, 5s and 10 times table facts and reciting them.   3. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One Science Geography Our Geography topic for this half term is, Animals and their Habitats . This unit gives children context to animals through a study of five continents. It looks at pandas, penguins, sharks and elephants, as well as lesser-known birds, such as the swallow. During this unit of work we will also focus on specific landscapes, animal homes, people associated with real places. Our Science topic for this half term is, On safari. Children go on safari to explore invertebrates and other plants and animals in the local area. We will also identifying and minibeasts, bugs and invertebrates. Children will compare themselves and invertebrates, gather and record data to help in answering questions. a geographical be observing, classifying, and issues How to help at home: Encourage your child to investigate and identify flowering plants on a country walk. Plant a seed at home and ask your child to observe and measure the plants growth, noting any changes. How to help at home: Use Google Earth and topographical maps at home to explore some of our areas of study. Music PE This half term, our Music theme is Your Imagination by Joanna Mangona and Pete Readman. In this unit we will focus on a style of music from the Pop genre. We will listen and appraise, explore pulse, rhythm and pitch in different styles of music and accompanying the instruments. Real PE: Real PE This half term the children will develop and apply their dynamic balance on a line and stance through focused skill development sessions, thematic stories and games.   4. Year One Curriculum Plan To Be The Best That We Can Be Summer Term One Books to Share at Home Art Our Art and Design focus this half term is Drawing Feathers / Making Sculptural Birds . In this unit of work children will be making close observational drawings of feathers with different mediums such as pencil, pastels and charcoal. They will explore media and materials to transform their drawings from 2d to 3d to make a sculptural bird. How to help at home: Read with your child every night and sign their reading record book. Encourage your child to complete a book review or a sequencing activity each week. How to help at home: Visit an art gallery with your child. Discuss the artwork/sculptures and encourage them to express and explain their opinions. Computing Our Computing topic this half term is Unplugged Algorithms. The children will be learning to create unplugged algorithms and apply them to an on screen program. They will begin to understand what an algorithm is and create a simple algorithm. They will learn to give instructions to a friend and follow their instructions to move around a space. PHSE Our PSHE module this half term is Created to Live in Community . In this unit we will explore the individual s relationship with the wider world. Here we explore how human beings are relational by nature and are called to love others in the wider community through service, through through working for the Common Good. dialogue and How to help at home: Talk to your child about their relationships and roles in their local community.
