  1. YEAR ONE OPEN EVENING

  2. Phonics. Daily 40 minutes session in groups across Key stage One. Speed sound flashcards (focus sound for the day). Word cards with focus sound in (special friends, Fred talk, read the word). Fred in their head then speedy reading. Alien words (part of the Phonics test June 2024). Assessment - every 6 weeks.

  3. Spelling Linked to the focus sound Fred fingers, pinch the sound. Children then write the word in their books.

  4. Reading Class books are a focus for the week. Children will partner practise story words, red words, and speedy words. End of year expectations. Children will read the text several times throughout the week practising fluency, voice choice and reading comprehension skills. Grammar focus, spelling and sentence writing linked to the text.

  5. Maths

  6. Read and write numbers to 100. Writing numbers to 20 in words and numerals. Count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Find one more and one less than any given number. Know and use number bonds to all numbers within 20. End of Year 1 number expectations are: 9/3/20XX

  7. Writing

  8. To use their own simple story ideas or retell a familiar story using short, simplistic sentences. To reread their writing aloud to check that it makes sense. To use adjectives. To use simple sentence structures: capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. To use their phonics to spell words and to know the red words by heart. To write a series of sentences that flow. To build on their sentences through conjunctions and varying sentence openers. To use punctuation: commas, question marks and examination marks. To form all letters correctly and consistent in size, sitting on the line. Year 1 writing expectations are: 9/3/20XX
