Year 5 Guided Reading - New Book Time!

1.Read the title and the blurb. What do you think this book is going to be about? 2.What two things do you want to know about the book from reading the blub?

Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 1 Tricky Vocabulary Chapter 1 - - definitions definitions - surreptitious - done secretly or quickly, in the hope that other people will not notice - surplices - a loose white piece of clothing with wide sleeves worn by priests and singers in the choir during church services - serene - calm and peaceful - wrangle - an argument that is complicated and continues over a long period of time - disputed - to question whether something is true - impregnable - strong and impossible to defeat or change - conspiratorially - in a way that is connected with, or makes you think of, a conspiracy (= a secret plan to do something illegal) - rationing - the policy of limiting the amount of food, fuel, etc. that people are allowed to have when there is not enough for everyone to have as much as they want - recrimination - an angry statement that somebody makes accusing somebody else of something, especially in response to a similar statement from them
