Wood County Schools Four (4) Days On Campus Plan
Wood County Schools are implementing a new four (4) days on campus learning plan starting from November 9 for PreK-5, November 16 for grades 6-8, and November 30 for grades 9-12. The plan aims to increase on-campus learning time while offering educational delivery options to families. Students will have four (4) days of in-person on-campus learning with one (1) day of remote learning. OPTION 1: Four (4) Days On Campus Learning The four (4) days on campus and one (1) day off campus learning plan begins November 9, 2020, for elementary schools. November 16, 2020, for middle schools. November 30, 2020, for high schools. Four (4) days in-person on campus learning defined Schoology is utilized for assignments, grades, conferencing, and attendance. Classes change classrooms with proper sanitization procedures followed. Masks worn when 6ft of social distancing cannot be maintained. Tutors permitted to work with students. Elementary gifted services grades 1 - 5 delivered remotely.
OPTION 2: Five (5) Days of Off Campus Learning The five (5) days of off campus learning plan begins November 9, 2020, for elementary schools. November 16, 2020, for middle schools. November 30, 2020, for high schools. Five (5) days of remote learning off campus defined Schoology utilized as the communication tool between students and teachers. Schoology utilized for assignments, grades, conferencing, and attendance. Students remain connected with their current teacher(s). Remote learners utilize current WCS curriculum (textbooks) and iPads issued by their home school. Students who need assistance can contact their teacher via email or Schoology (Monday-Friday). Assignments for students learning off campus should keep pace with the four (4) day on campus students instruction. Assignment due dates for remote learners may be different from in-person on campus learners. Due dates set around dedicated office hours on Fridays so students can communicate with teacher(s) before an assignment is due. Set two (2) dedicated hours for remote learners.
How to Sign Up for Remote Learning Contact your child s school Make an appointment with an administrator or counselor Sign the COVID-19 Learning Commitment Form Students remain in Option 2 until January 22, 2021.
OPTION 3: WV Virtual School for Grades K - 5 Elementary students in grades K 5 can be enrolled in WV Virtual School. Assignments and instructions are accessed through the WV Learns portal using an internet connection. Virtual teachers have Microsoft Teams meetings once a week with WV Virtual School students. WV Virtual School utilizes Florida Virtual School curriculum. Printed materials are provided by the Board of Education. iPads are issued by the students home school. Wood County Schools textbooks are not utilized. Students are assigned one virtual school teacher for all subjects.
How to Sign Up for WV Virtual School Contact your child s school to enroll. This is an option for elementary students K 5.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. Can a four (4) day in-person on campus student move to remote learning at any time? Yes. A student can drop to remote learning at any time. Once a parent/guardian signs a COVID-19 Learning Commitment Form, the student remains a remote learner until January 22, 2021. 2. Can current virtual students move to remote learning? No. 3. Can current virtual students move to four (4) day in-person learning on campus? Yes. 4. What are acceptable platforms for communicating with students? Teachers can utilize Microsoft Teams, Schoology, and Microsoft 365 email accounts. 5. Are teachers required to record lessons for remote learners? No. 6. If teachers choose to allow students to participate in classes via Microsoft Teams or Conferencing via Schoology, is there a set expectation of time teachers are to be on camera? No.
