  1. Third Grade Welcome McNair Families! We re glad you re here.

  2. Welcome to Third Grades Commanders Connect Thank you for coming to our Commanders Connect meeting! If you have any questions about a particular slide throughout the presentation, please let us know. Otherwise, we will answer general questions at the end of the presentation. Subject specific questions should be directed to your child s teacher(s).

  3. Our Goals To give students the academic and social skills they need to progress to fourth grade and beyond To provide a safe, supportive and fun learning environment To help students make new friends and discover new interests

  4. Safety For the safety of everyone, please enter the building through the front doors only. Do not stop on Montecito to drop off or pick up your child. Do not drop off your child in the front parking lot unless you are parked in a parking spot. We need your help to keep your children safe!

  6. Daily Schedule 7:30 First Bell rings 7:40 Tardy bell- students are tardy if they are not present in the classroom at 7:40. 7:55-8:45 Special Areas (music, art, PE) 11:55-12:25 Lunch 12:25-12:55 Recess 3:00 Dismissal

  7. Dismissal Students need to remain in school until the 3:00 dismissal bell. Picking your child up early when they do not have a doctor s appt. causes them to lose valuable instructional time. Please remember we are trying to safely dismiss over 550 children. Ride changes need to be made by 2 pm in the office ONLY if you have an emergency. Early dismissal of your child must be before 2:30 and only if necessary. Students will not be released after 2:30, you will need to wait until the 3:00 dismissal time.

  8. Attendance Expectations Students need to be at school unless they are ill (see district guidelines) Absence notes go directly to the office Parents can now email absence notes to mcnairnotes@dentonisd.org in place of a hand-written note Just like written notes, the emails cannot go to the classroom teacher. They need to go directly to the office using the above email address Please do not email your child s teacher if you forget the email address, it can always be found on the McNair homepage

  9. Attendance Expectations cont. Loss of Significant Instructional Time (LOSIT) 15 minutes or more (coming late or leaving early) Tardies Must be in the classroom seated and working when 7:40 bell rings. ANY time after 7:40 will be marked as a tardy and noted in your child s agenda Parents are not allowed in after the 7:40 bell Tardies affect perfect attendance

  10. Classroom Expectations Our classrooms are a community! In our communities, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Some of our rules are: Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Ready

  11. S.T.A.R. Binders Students Taking Academic Responsibility Please review and sign your child s agenda in the STAR binder every night, including Fridays, to help us know you have seen homework assignments and any communication from the teachers.

  12. Tuesday Folders Come home every Tuesday with your child s STAR binder Include flyers from McNair and the community Can also include completed work

  13. Homework Homework will be assigned as needed. This might include additional practice on specific skills, make-up work, or corrections.

  14. Math Online Program: Imagine Math Students can log on to practice and play at home. See following slides for more details.

  15. Sign in at the McNair Single Sign-on Portal https://sso.dentonisd.org/SitePages/Home.aspx Students will enter their school id and password. Each student s goal is to practice 45 min. per week.

  17. SeeSaw This will serve as your student s digital portfolio. It can include pictures, audio, and video of classroom and report card assignments. Your invitation will be sent by email, and you will receive this by the end of next week.

  18. Standards Based Report Cards At the end of each grading period, families will receive a Standards Based Report Card reflecting student learning. Report card assessments will be uploaded to your child s SeeSaw folder. Hard copies of assessments will come home with the report card.
