General Information - JH Attendance - Please be present at school. This is very important! We do take attendance each period. When absent, it is the responsibility of the student to get with the teacher for make-up/missing work. Students will have three days from the date of return to school to bring a note.
General Information - JH Parent portal - all students will have access to their grades. Set up in class with counselor. Parents - please make sure that you also have access to the portal and that you are checking your students grades. Homework will be assigned. Please make sure students are completing it and turning it in by the due date. The due date is important because of the late work policy. Points will be deducted daily up until the third day. After the third day, the assignment will no longer be accepted. Navarro ISD grading guidelines are posted on the NISD website. Work together on a system with your student to remember homework and or tests by using an agenda, planner, or calendar. Check backpacks weekly to help students stay organized!!
Class Information Navarro Junior High will be on a 7 period school day with classes being 50 minutes each. There is also a tutorial period for 30 minutes each day. You will have 5 minutes between classes. In 6thgrade you will have four core classes consisting of ELA, science, history and math. There is also a PE requirement for all 6th graders. This can be fulfilled by taking pre-athletics. Other elective options are choir, beginning band, art, study skills, and technology applications. The JH is on a six week grading cycle. This is different from the Intermediate and the nine week schedule.
Chromebooks Each student gets a chromebook to check out from the school. Chromebooks are for school use only! Parents have the option to purchase a maintenance plan for their student. https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1502/Navarro_ISD/3464571/Device_Usage__Agreement__1_.pdf The technology department monitors everything done on chromebooks. Students are responsible for charging the chromebook every night. Students are responsible for damages.
NISD Cell Phone Policy For safety purposes, the district permits students to possess personal mobile telephones; however, these devices must remain turned off during the instructional day, including during all testing, unless they are being used for approved instructional purposes. If a student uses a telecommunications device without authorization during the school day, the device will be confiscated. The student or parent may pick up the confiscated telecommunications device from the principal s office for a fee of $15 per device.
Parents Tips for Junior High Success - START NOW!! Begin teaching organizational and study skills. Check parent portal on a regular basis. Take attendance to school very seriously. Communicate with your child about their school day. Support homework expectations. There will be homework in JH especially if class time if not used wisely.
