Study Identifying the issues with the current handbook obtaining feedback Discussion of the current handbook at the FY representatives meeting Informal discussion with other FY doctors Discussion with our supervisor, who is involved in FY doctors training Our own experience Issues identified with the current version: Not concise enough dense and unappealing format; Lack of hands-on advice and guidance on trust-specific procedures (e.g. referrals); Lack of useful contacts and information on topics such as educational activities, study leave, how to organise taster weeks, quality improvement projects, etc.; No mention of some departments such as general surgery; Repetition of comprehensive clinical guidelines, readily available on the intranet.

What is currently being done All contributors were asked to update/create their section taking into account the FY doctors feedback more concise and shorter versions, focusing on practical aspects; Comprehensive guidelines were replaced with references to them what guidelines are available and where to find them; An elected group of FY doctors is writing a section on time management and planning hands-on advice. New, user-friendly format.
