Technical Organization for SAND Construction, Installation, and Operation
The Technical Organization for SAND Construction, Installation, and Operation involves various Working Groups responsible for deliverables such as designs, hardware components, software packages, and technical documents. The Consortium Technical and Software/Analysis Boards play key roles in decision-making processes, ensuring the smooth progress of the project. Additional working groups can be defined as needed, with a structured approach to setting up and processing the Working Groups.

Technical Organization for SAND Construction, Installation and Operation C. Montanari FNAL INFN Pavia DUNE-IT Meeting November 11, 2021
Technical Organization Structure The basic components of the Operative Structure are the Working Groups (WGs). The Working Groups are responsible for providing deliverables such as designs, hardware components, software packages, technical documents, assemblies, tests, etc. The WGs chairpersons form the Consortium Technical and Software/Analysis Boards (CTB and CSAB), chaired by SAND s Technical and Software/Analysis Leaders and their deputies (TL and SAL respectively). The TL is responsible for maintaining the high level schedule of the detector deployment, to collect and harmonize the requests for resources and for the high level technical organization of the experiment. The SAL has similar responsibilities on Software/Analysis organization and high level deliverables. The decision-making process is straightforward, both bottom-up and top-down, with the CTB/CSAB and the Consortium Advisory Committee collecting requests and issues from the WGs and from the higher level structures of the consortium or DUNE and taking informed decisions about moving forward or pushing back the requests or the issues. From the operative point of view, the decision-making process can be stopped at any level that is considered appropriate for the specific decision. 2 SAND Technical Organization - DUNE-IT Meeting - November 11, 2021
Technical Working Groups and Interfaces The following working groups can be easily identified: Magnet and yoke ECAL Inner Tracker (this will be split in sub-WGs) Straw tubes and targets construction Readout electronics Gas system Support structure, mechanics and alignments Design & prototyping Design & prototyping GRAIN Muon chambers (decision making process) Slow controls (reference persons) DAQ, trigger and Beam interface (reference persons) The following interfaces are also required: Electrical equipment Installation & Integration (logistic) Cryogenics (interface) Safety Data Management and Computing (shared with Software and Analysis Board) Also very important: Documents collection, organization and distribution Additional working groups can be defined, according to specific needs. 3 SAND Technical Organization - DUNE-IT Meeting - November 11, 2021
Technical Working Groups Setting up and process As a first step, the Consortium members will be asked to express their interest in participating into one or more Working Group. The so formed Working Groups will be then asked to have a first meeting during which they will identify a chairperson and a deputy. During the initial phase of their activity, the working group will also define: the deliverables associated with their activities; a preliminary, high level schedule, leading to the deliveries; a schedule for regular (weekly or every other week) meetings; one or more observers that participate to the meetings of other working groups of relevance for the specific working group. The Technical Board will meet after the first round of meetings (as soon as the WGs chairpersons and deputies will be defined). The TB meetings will be held every two weeks. During the first meetings, the WGs scope will be analyzed to verify that SAND scope is being fulfilled. If needed, corrective measures will be agreed. The TL and the deputy TL are not ex-officio members of the WGs, but are invited to the WGs meetings. 4 SAND Technical Organization - DUNE-IT Meeting - November 11, 2021
Technical Organization Structure: implementation Implementation of the technical organization was put on hold, at the end of last year, waiting for the decision on the inner tracker. The process to setup the technical structure starts during November 2021 and it is expected to be completed in a couple of months. Several technical activities, that have been carried on with the help of some selected individuals from the Consortium, will be transferred under the responsibility of the appropriate working groups and interfaces. In particular several activities are going on to be ready for CD1RR: Discussions, sharing of information and planning with I&I team; Discussions, sharing of information and planning with Fermilab s services for magnet testing and pre- assembly operations. Discussions and planning with the DAQ and Slow Controls group. 5 SAND Technical Organization - DUNE-IT Meeting - November 11, 2021
