Revealed: More than a Messenger
Job 23:3 If only I knew where to find him Job 26:14 how faint the whisper we hear of him! Isaiah 63:15 Look down from heaven and see, from your lofty throne, holy and glorious. Where are your zeal and your might? Your tenderness and compassion are withheld from us. John 14:8 - Philip said, Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us. God seems God seems kind of kind of elusive. elusive.
Hebrews 1:1-4 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
Mark 12 Mark 12
Hebrews 1:1 Hebrews 1:1- -4 4 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
Hebrews 1:3 Hebrews 1:3- -4 4 3The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
From Telling to Showing From Telling to Showing Colossians 1:15-17 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together
Hebrews: Jesus is Superior Hebrews: Jesus is Superior Angels were messengers; Jesus is the message Moses was a servant; Jesus is the Son Joshua won temporary peace; Jesus brings lasting rest Sacrifices remind us of sin; Jesus paid for them all Jesus is the Prophet, revealing God s truth Jesus is the Priest, reconciling us to God Jesus is the King, reigning over all
From Telling to Showing From Telling to Showing Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love for us in this while we were still sinners, Christ died for us 1 John 4:9 This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His One and only Son into the world that we might live through Him
From Telling to Showing From Telling to Showing John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John 14:9-11 Jesus answered: Don t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, Show us the Father ? Don t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. John 20:29-31 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
Article #4 God s gospel is made known supremely in the Person of Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus Israel s promised Messiah was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.
Reflecting Gods Light Reflecting God s Light John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Closing Song Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me
