  2. FRICATIVE SOUNDS 1- Fricative sounds are produced by narrowing the air passage so that the air passes through a very narrow opening and making a kind of hissing sounds /f/,/v/,/s/,/z/,/ /,/ /, / /,/ /, /h/

  3. When the two parts of the mouth approach each other closely, not completely blocking the passage of the air , but forcing it through a confined space

  4. Examples Feel / fi:l / Place / pleis / Niece / ni:s / Think / i / Prize / praiz / Show / / Shy / ai / Those / s/ Beige / bei /

  5. Affricates Affricates sounds are sounds which in the process of production start as stops and end like fricatives / /, / /

  6. English has two affricates , the initial sounds in cheap and jeep These are classified as palato- alveolar affricates Examples:- chin / in / Chest / est /
