+Goal 1: Teacher Quality Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results CH Prep teachers are properly assigned, fully credentialed in the subject areas, and for the pupils they are teaching and participate in ongoing PD opportunities focused on identified needs. - None to report at the moment but What do you see? - Qualitative Data - All teachers are credentialed and are teaching in their appropriate subject areas. - Quality learning in the classrooms as we are seeing academic growth. - We were able to hire a TA as an Intern teacher - she is currently enrolled in a intern program - Encourage and provide PD opportunities - Quality of instruction and teaching has improved with our instructional coach who supports our teachers. - Internal surveys students and staff have reported student learning growth. - Quantitative Data - no vacant teacher positions. - School reimburses up to $1500 per employee for continuing education. - School reimburses cost of PD opportunities for staff. - School provides stipend to teachers who serve as mentors (up to $500 per mentor). - School carves time from the schedule to allow for teacher mentoring. - School has seen at least 1 years of academic growth amongst students. Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? - We would expand this to include TA s as all of our TA s currently hold sub- credentials and are able to provide sub coverage when a teacher has to take the day off. This goal was developed because it is important that the teachers in the classrooms are qualified to teach in their assigned content classes, that way ensuring that teachers are knowledgeable in the content they are teaching to students. The PD opportunities will help create learning opportunities for growth in their area of specialization but also to learn about other areas in which they can get specialized in to better support our students.
+ Goal 2: Instructional Materials Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results Every student at CH Prep has access to standards- aligned instructional materials and has 1:1 access to a computer during the school day. - Nothing to report at the moment but What do you see? - Qualitative Data - The school counselor meets with students and their families to see what they need (school materials, clothing, food, mental health, and health insurance resources). - Increased student engagement because students are provided with all the school materials they need both in the classroom and outside of the classrooms. - Continued learning at home because families are provided with computer and wifi access at home. - Teachers are able to do more project-based learning as school provides materials for staff andl students. - Families, students, and staff has expressed how this has been helpful and has been positive impact on overall perception of learning. Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? - We want to continue to provide school materials to our families. We noticed that when students are provided with all of the materials they need, they are more engaged and successful in their learning. - Quantitative Data - School sets aside money in the school budget to provide all students with school materials and furnish all classrooms with the materials they will need. - Funds are allocated to purchasing of tech, softwares, online educational platforms, books, and other materials they will need. 100% of our students are categorized as free meals and economically disadvantage and therefore families have a hard time in being able to provide their children with school materials. We want to help close any equity gaps that this may create and make sure that all of our students have access to free instructional materials and access to a computer during the school day.
+Goal 3: Facilities Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results None to report at the moment as the school continues to make security upgrades based on family, student, and staff requests Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? Qualitative Families, students, and staff have reported increased feeling of safety. Staff and students have reported they have a safe working and learning environment. Students and staff has reported our facilities manager does a great job in attending to any broken items or things that need immediate attention. CH Prep will ensure that the school facilities are maintained in good repair What do you see? Quantitative School has received 100% on their annual fire inspections. School has no current safety hazards. School budget allocates funds to finance facility upkeep. This goal was developed because the school believes in the importance of fostering a safe learning environment for students and a safe learning environment for staff to teach in. A facility in good repair means students have access to classrooms with no broken walls, with working air conditioning and heaters, safe and clean bathrooms, and areas to eat in play in. This also includes the school being properly equipped and ready in the case of a school fire as the school has installed a fire system, an alarm system to make sure that the school grounds and classrooms are kept safe when no one is on campus, and double-fencing with a gated entrance door. We also have a facilities manager onsite who is constantly checking and repairing as needed. When the school facility is maintained in good repair then it becomes easier for the school staff to provide a safe learning and teaching environment.
+ Goal 4:English Language Arts, Math, and Science Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results CH Prep students will demonstrate academic achievement in English language arts (ELA), math and science as outlined in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Qualitative - Students and staff are reporting academic improvement in these content areas. - Providing science and history classes to all students in MS has helped with their transition to science and history in HS. - Student surveys and conversations have confirmed that MS students are enjoying being placed in not just math and English class. What do you as students and staff see not working? Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? Quantitative - Aligning curriculum to CCS has showed an increase in state testing data. - Internal MAP data shows at least 1 year of academic growth. This goal was developed because of our large Emergent Bilinguals and refugee student population, we want to ensure that our students meet the same academic standards as other non-English Learners. To do so, we ensure that teaching is aligned with the common core standards and that we are able to provide our students with access to rigorous courses, and at the same time, help them meet the state standards.
+ Goal 5: English Language Development (ELD) Actions/Activitie s/Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modificati on(s) based on evaluatio n results CH Prep students will demonstrate proficiency in all written, reading, listening, and oral English language conventions for writing and speaking Qualitative - Reading Intervention class - Peer mentors - Incorporating, reading, and writing in all content classes not just English and Reading - Teachers providing translation of learning content - Teachers have reported increase in student overall attitude towards learning - Building of student language and conversational skills What do you see not working? Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? - How can we address low performance on state test for our students? - How do we increase EL students performance on state test? Quantitative - Reading diagnostic scores increase - Reading level increase - Increase of students being reclassified (ELPAC) This goal was developed with the purpose to identify and support the area of needs, especially with English for our Emergent Bilinguals. Again, with such a big percentage of our students being categorized as English Learners or Refugees, it is imperative that we focus and provide support with their language support.
+ Goal 6: Character and Social Development Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results CH Prep students will demonstrate leadership qualities, respect for diversity and an understanding of the world around them through participation in community service activities and their performance in related coursework. Qualitative - Students have reported with the different community organizations and groups they have volunteered or worked at - Peer mentor groups - Organized community and school cleanups - More culturally diverse activities to increase student engagement What do you see not working? Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? Quantitative - 100% of our seniors participate in 15 hours of community service hours. - MS also engage in at least 2 community or school cleanups a month. - Have about 20 peer mentors and mentees The goal was developed to ensure that students are learning social emotionally as well as academically. Students should leave City Heights Prep Charter wanting to leave our campus and their community as a better place
Goal 7: Parental Involvement + Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results CH Prep will seek to involve parents in meaningful ways that promote student achievement - We have not met our goal of 10 family members attending family meetings We need to organize more parent/school engagement opportunities What else? Qualitative - Families are attending family and SSC meetings. - Larger percentage of families attending back to school night and parent conferences. - Increased number of families have attended school and classroom-based activites (fairs, etc) and school potluck. - Family phone calls and meeting reminders in parentsquare helpful. Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? Quantitative - We have at least 2 parents at half of the meetings scheduled. - At least 20 families attended school potluck. - About 50% of families attended parent conferences. - We have 3 confirmed parents on SSC. We believe that when parents are involved with the school that their children attends then student overall connectedness and involvement and growth with the school also grows. It is important for parents to be involved, participate in the decision making of key items and allocation of money the school earns, and to help provide helpful feedback and ideas with the school. The parents are a bridge between the school and students and their involvement will be a positive contribution.
+ Goal 8: Student Engagement and School Climate Actions/Activities/ Strategies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results CH Prep students will exhibit motivation to succeed academically that results from high expectations, the establishment of strong staff/student relationships and a safe and secure learning environment. CH Prep student reports and school data will reflect a positive school climate - The chronic absentee rate still high and we need to continue to work on lowering it. - Suspension rates amongst black/African American students being reported high (we need to brainstorm what we can do to address this) - Discuss other means of discipline and restorative circles. Qualitative - Students reporting good school environment. - Students reporting positively about check- in s. - Staff providing more field trip and club opportunities - More fundraising activities - More school-spirit - ASB - What can we add to address how to decrease tardiness and suspension rates? Quantitative - Truancy meetings - Attendance competitions - More clubs offered and increased student participation - Increase # of restorative circles - Decrease # of total suspensions The school developed this goal to create a positive school climate for both students and staff. By cultivating a restorative school, students learn their impact on their community and build healthy relationships with peers and staff.
+Goal 9:Course of Study Actions/Activities/Stra tegies What is working and why? What is not working and why? Modification(s) based on evaluation results Every CH Prep student will complete a course of study leading to completion of all a g requirements by graduation from 12th grade*. *Exceptions may be made in the case of students whose transition plan requires a different course of study. Qualitative - Transcript audits - Meetings with school counselor - AVID 11/12 class - Report Card monitoring - Diverse school course catalog - Different diplomas being offered - Credit recovery courses - Opportunity for students to work towards other completion certifications What can we change? Should we continue, discontinue or modify this goal? - Should we add anything in there about vocational schools? - Should we add access to more advanced classes? Quantitative - More students meeting A-G requirements - Students graduating - Increase # of students applying to community colleges or 4-year universities The goal was developed to best set up students for post graduation success. By completing all of the A-G requirements, students are more likely to attend UC and CSU schools, as well as any other four year universities. A-G courses also require more rigor, which helps students prepare for college or university.
