  2. P&HSS: Marking VE Day Meeting What was VE Day and why are we remembering it?

  3. P&HSS: Marking VE Day Meeting VE Day marks the day towards the end of the second world war when fighting between Allied and Axis forces came to an end in Europe 8 May 1945. 2020 marks 75 years since VE Day; a time to remember, give thanks, and celebrate the return of peace to Europe

  4. P&HSS: Marking VE Day Meeting What role did Scouts play in WWII?

  5. P&HSS: Marking VE Day Meeting Scouts helped to collect waste paper (over one million tonnes were recycled over the war) as well as metal, rubber, and rags that could be reused as raw materials were in short supply. They played a really important role by welcoming displaced persons and refugees from Europe at train stations and in their towns and villages. The UK welcomed 10,000 children and more than 70,000 Jewish refugees over the course of the war. Scouts helped as part of the Air Raid Precautions (ARP) by issuing and fitting gas marks, building shelters, acting as Air Raid Wardens, firefighting, guiding people to public shelters, and saving people from some of the two million homes that were destroyed by bombing raids

Decorate your bunting Decorate the main triangle but leave the top strip blank You can decorate with anything you want paint, pencils, collage, glitter, stickers, crayons, pens You can draw anything that inspires you but here are some ideas if you get stuck: A soldier from WW2 Your grandfather who was in the navy Your grandmother who worked for the RAF The Union Flag A dove of peace Your message of thanks Your hero

  15. P&HSS: Marking VE Day Meeting Step 3. Construct your bunting When you ve decorated all of your flags, fold along the solid black line to make a flap Put the flap over your string or ribbon and glue or tape the flap in place
