Advent Theme: PEACE Isaiah 9:6-7
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, PRINCE OF PEACE.
Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and of PEACE there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
Write down three things that have hindered your peace in the past 6 months.
G oals of this Serm on 1. Present a Biblical definition of peace. 2. Show how this definition influences the way Christians pursue peace.
W orldly D efinition Peace: The absence of conflict. Inner tranquility.
B iblical D efinition Peace (Shalom): Completeness, wholeness.
E phesians 2:17 And he came and PREACHED PEACE to you who were far off and PEACE to those who were near.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that BROUGHT US PEACE, and by his wounds we are healed.
C ollosians1:19-20 For in him [Christ] all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, MAKING PEACE by the blood of his cross.
R om ans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, WE HAVE PEACE with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 48:18 Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your PEACE would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea;
Isaiah 48:22 There is no PEACE, says the LORD, for the wicked.
Isaiah 32:17 And the effect of righteousness will be PEACE, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.
P ursuing P eace B iblically Step 3: Flee from wickedness because it hinders our experience of the Spirit. Live righteously.
John 14:1 14 Let not your hearts be troubled. BELIEVE in God; BELIEVE also in me [Christ].
John 16:33 I have said these things to you, that IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart in that tribulation; I have overcome the world.
