With the ongoing global pandemic, scouts are focusing on spring recruitment, camper safety at summer camp, and extended registration deadlines. Safety protocols have been enhanced for summer camp, and registration deadlines have been extended to accommodate the changing conditions. Scouts BSA troops, Webelos, Cub Scouts, and units are adapting to new recruitment strategies and safety measures.

  1. IN THE MIDST OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC SCOUTING FORWARD ADVANCING!

SPRING RECRUITMENT Membership Focus for Scouts BSA Troops Webelos to Scout Transition Targeted recruitment in late spring (Boy Troops AND Girl Troops) Plan outdoor activity for bring a friend or open house Target 5-6 graders Membership Focus for Cub Scouts Targeted recruitment in late spring to invite prospective new Scouts Plan outdoor activity for bring a friend (hike, fishing, campout, etc) Target Dens < 5 Scouts, likely Lion/Tigers who most Packs Prepare for Fall Recruitment & Join Scout Night season Identify and recruit your Pack contact for fall recruitment (New Member Coordinator) Start developing/strengthening relationship with schools

  3. CAMPER SAFETY AT SUMMER CAMP Safety protocols have been developed for camping within several scenarios. Prepared for the following if conditions warrant it this summer Single occupancy accommodations Lower camp capacities Meals eaten in shifts to allow for spacing Continuing sanitation, spacing, and pre- screening protocols utilized in 2020

EXTENDED REGISTRATION DEADLINES Camp Friedlander camper deposit deadline extended to April 5th Allow units more time to get Scouts organized Merit Badge registration begins March 6th Scouts need to pay deposit for Merit Badge registration Updated Refund policy to allow for full refunds if changes need to be made to a Scout s registration due to COVID-19 www.danbeard.org/summer-camp-updates/

  5. EXTENDED REGISTRATION DEADLINES Units can reserve their spot at camp with a camper estimate at no cost Cub World will allow camper registration without making a deposit until May 1. Free Slushie deadline is still March 31. Scouts need to pay deposit to get the Free Slushie incentive Updated Refund policy to allow for full refunds if changes need to be made to a Scout s registration due to COVID-19 www.danbeard.org/summer-camp-updates/

  6. SCOUT ADVANCEMENT Several accommodations were announced in 2020 to help Scouts advance despite the challenges of COVID-19. These accommodations are still in effect and can be found at www.scouting.org/coronavirus/covid-19-faq/#advancement Remember the standard for Cub Scout advancement is Do Your Best .

  7. SCOUT RECOGNITION The fourth step of Scout advancement is Recognition Recognition is a motivator to the Scout who receives it and others Units should work to schedule and plan a recognition ceremony this spring to celebrate these achievements Troop Court of Honor Pack Blue and Gold Banquet Den or Patrol based recognition ceremonies

  8. MARCH SURVEY QUESTIONS When/how is the Unit planning to hold Blue and Gold/Court of Honor? Where is the going for Summer camp? (Friedlander, Cub World, Ransburg, etc) Is the unit interested in recruiting new scouts/families in spring? Has the unit provided any recognition to adult leaders? Do they need resources (nomination forms or ideas) to do so?
