The numbering system of Dewey extends out on
three main digits, followed by up to eight digits
after a decimal point.
We do not go that far in PMHS library, we
normally use three or less after the point.

DDC
“F-16: Fighting Falcon” by Robbie Shaw in 1996
is 356.4, in the “356 Foot forces & warfare”
section of the Dewey system.
“J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter Novels : a Reader's
Guide” by Philip Nel in 2001 is 823.914.

Don’t worry, you do not need to learn what all
the codes mean, only that you know where on
the library shelf to find a topic you are looking
for, or how to find your book when you have
asked at the desk for a type of book and are told
its code.
15
Enjoy
Once you have found a book that looks good,
remember to have it issued to you at the desk.
You have a month before it needs renewed.
When you are finished, hand it in when the
library is open, or drop it into either of the book
boxes.

The Park Mains High School Library Guide provides an overview of the Dewey Decimal Classification System, making it easier for students to locate books based on subject matter rather than authors' last names. The system organizes books into categories such as Computer Science, Philosophy, Religion, Social Sciences, and Language, streamlining the search process and facilitating access to a wide range of non-fiction materials.
