SURVEY OVERVIEW EVIC/NWPP May 2020 Oregon Primary Survey
Survey Overview The EVIC / Northwest Policy Priorities Survey was administered from October 6-12, 2020, and is intended to understand information levels and attitudes about the Oregon election system. The survey was developed in partnership with and supported by the Oregon Secretary of State s Division of Elections. This is the second of four polls that will be conducted in 2020 to track how opinions in the state about election integrity and resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and a historical presidential election. Survey Overview Takeaways: Confidence in Oregon s election system remains as high as it did in May, despite heightened partisan discourse surrounding vote-by-mail. Oregonians resisted misleading rhetoric about VBM; Republicans, Democrats, and Independents were more likely (than in May) to say that expanding Oregon s vote- by-mail system to other states would not increase voter fraud. Oregon s VBM system is resilient. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt life and the economy, but Oregonians are not concerned about their ability to vote. Some confusion persists about what is allowed and what is not under our election system. EVIC/NWPP May 2020 Oregon Primary Survey

Those who vote by mail overwhelming cite convenience as their reason for doing so. Respondents see less risk of fraud or manipulation in Oregon s elections than the nation as a whole Oregonians have become more pessimistic about the direction of the state, with a majority now reporting that Oregon is headed in the wrong direction, a complete reversal of the situation in May.
