  2. On the Job Website Teacher s Cafe Primary School Years 5 - 6 Middle School Years 7- 9 High School Years 10 - 12 This is a FREE website for teachers, parents and students. The Design Concept is based on the local Shopping Mall and became a Careers Market and then in 2024 - "Careers Expo". The website has been created to use "jobs" as a vehicle to encourage students to improve their literacy, numeracy and critical & creative thinking skills. Technology is used wherever possible to introduce students to new practical and mostly free websites, games and apps. https://onthejob.education 2

  3. On the Job Website Teacher s Cafe The website tries to break job stereotypes eg. female truckies or disabled livestock farmer to a young inventor of apps. We endeavour to encourage students (and teachers and parents) to read and learn about different jobs and the people who are engaged (or were engaged) with these jobs to show the students that they, no matter what their circumstance, could aspire to these jobs. https://onthejob.education 3

  4. On the Job Website Teacher s Cafe The OTJ website s information, activities & links [YouTube videos, other websites] can be used as a class, group work or an individual activity for students from a single lesson, multiple lessons to integrated units of work. 23. Mathematicians: Agents of Change Mathematics Educators as Change Agents Teachers of mathematics play a crucial role in shaping students' understanding and attitudes toward maths. By adopting innovative teaching methods, promoting inclusivity, and emphasizing real-world applications, they can transform the learning experience. By promoting inclusive maths education, mathematicians empower students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has access to mathematical knowledge and opportunities. Prof. Michelle Simmons Quantum Physicist Inventor single atom transistor Out of a couple of hundred students in my year at my South-East London comprehensive school, only 16 did A- levels (that s the equivalent of the HSC); and of those, only two passed. School - wanting to learn - always curious. Crowd control but teachers were great people. They took me aside and told me the answers to questions I kept putting my hands up for. One of her maths teachers saw a potential and challenged her. 23 https://onthejob.education/life_job/famous_people/Michelle_Simmons.htm

  24. Mathematicians: Agents of Change Mathematics Educators as Change Agents Prof. Michelle Simmons Quantum Physicist There s a message here for our educators, our scientists and for all Australians. If we want young people to be the best they can be at anything we must set the bar high and tell them we expect them to jump over it. My strong belief is that we need to be teaching all students, girls and boys, to have high expectations of themselves. https://onthejob.education/life_job/famous_people/Michelle_Simmons.htm https://onthejob.education 24

  25. Mathematicians: Agents of Change Mathematics Educators as Change Agents Prof. Michelle Simmons Quantum Physicist During her Australian Of the Year acceptance speech she quoted that she had 4 Mantras: Do what is hard Place high expectations on yourself Take risks Do something that matters https://onthejob.education/life_job/famous_people/Michelle_Simmons.htm https://onthejob.education 25

  26. Mathematicians: Agents of Change Mathematics Educators as Change Agents By fostering a love for mathematics, Mathematics Educators contribute to a more maths- literate society. They open up a world of possibilities. https://onthejob.education 26

  27. Mathematicians: Agents of Change Mathematicians as Agents of Social Change. Equity and diversity are essential considerations. A maths teacher is either an agent of change or an instrument of inequity when it comes to teaching and learning mathematics. They can actively work toward creating a more just and equitable maths classroom.
