in 2011. The Panda update focused by
and large on site
content
. The algorithm
adjustment works like a quality filter for
websites. Websites of lesser quality are
filtered out and devalued. This
assessment does not take place per
website, but on a URL basis.
2. Penguin Update
The Penguin update is an update to the
Google ranking algorithm, first carried out
in 2012. The Penguin update is mainly
directed against webspam with the goal
optimizing search results for users. This
improvement was achieved with higher
quality content improved technical
website performance.
3. Hummingbird Update
The Hummingbird update is the
codename given to a significant algorithm
change in Google Search in 2013. The
Hummingbird update is a significant
update of Google's search algorithm that
focuses on interpreting natural language
queries and the context of the words in a
search string to deliver more accurate
results and better satisfy searcher intent.
4. Mobile Update
Google made mobile friendliness a
ranking factor for mobile search results
with the first rollout in 2015. As with all
Google updates, mobile updates have the
goal of making search results better for
users. But where the conventional
adjustments to the algorithm of the
search engine affected all search queries,
the effect of the mobile update is limited
to mobile SERPs.
5. RankBrain Update
The RankBrain update is an extension to
the 2013 Hummingbird algorithm update.
Google introduced the RankBrain update
in October 2015.RankBrain tweaks the
algorithm on its own. Depending on the
keyword, RankBrain will increase or
decrease the importance of backlinks,
content freshness, content length, domain
authority etc.
6. BERT Update
BERT began rolling out in Google’s search
system the week of October 21, 2019.
Google's BERT update is set to change the
way the search engine handles naturally
phrased search queries. With billions of
searches made daily, many are too
nuanced for the search engine to fully
understand.
7. Core Update
Google's March 2024 update is a game-
changer, with many sites impacted by
algorithmic changes and deindexed from
Google Search. Google's March 2024 core
update is bringing a seismic shift to the
SEO industry
. This major update might
sweep the web the same way the Panda
and Penguin updates did.
