National Strike Days - Current Offer Rejected, Pay Campaign Continues
The rejection of the current pay offer for teachers in Scotland, citing reasons such as insufficient value, lack of negotiation, and concerns over future submissions, has led to targeted strikes. The ongoing pay campaign continues with planned strike days and a call for strong picket lines to show determination for fair pay.

NATIONAL STRIKE DAYS 28thFebruary and 1stMarch March and Rally 11thMarch
Why was the current offer rejected? Why was the current offer rejected? The offer was for: 6% for 2022-23 5.5% for 2023-24 Capped at 80,000 The Salaries Committee voted unanimously to reject the offer and overwhelmingly voted that the offer should not be put to members, in short, because: 1. The value of the offer for 2022-23 is insufficient. RPI inflation was published today and remains at 13.4%. CPI inflation sits today at 10.1%. A 6% pay uplift is only 1% less of a pay cut than the 5% rejected overwhelmingly in 2 ballots and less than the saving that has been made on the wage bill by teachers taking three days of strike action. 2. The Teachers' Pay Claim for 2023-24 has not even been submitted. It is due next week. The 2023-24 component of the offer has not been the subject of any negotiations at all it has appeared out of thin air. The Scottish Government claimed to have more financial leeway for the next financial year but hasn't used it. Furthermore, the 5.5% uplift offered is less than offered for 2022-23 and would simply deepen the real terms pay cut over the period. 3. Proper negotiation mechanisms have been completely side-lined as the Scottish Government and COSLA have sought to negotiate through the media rather than with teacher trade union representatives. 4. The Scottish Government claims that 5.5% will be paid to other sections of the local government workforce. This is yet further flouting of negotiating mechanisms in favour of the One Workforce 'pay suppression for all' agenda in which both COSLA and the Scottish Government are complicit. 5. It is a differentiated offer, which the EIS and the other teacher unions have stipulated to be a red line. 6. The offer was not badged as full and final. Scottish Government has specifically stopped short of stating that there is no further money that could be channelled into a settlement. We believe there is a better deal to be gained. 7. All in all, the package has been put together as a red herring- a distraction- to try to avert the strike action due to take place in target constituencies next week. This tells us that the threat of this action is working.
And so our pay campaign continues And so our pay campaign continues Targeted Strikes: Glasgow Southside, Dunfermline, Perthshire North and the part of Clydebank and Milngavie constituency that lies within the East Dunbartonshire Council area 22nd - 24th February Glasgow Southside, Dunfermline, Perthshire North, the part of Clydebank and Milngavie constituency that lies within the East Dunbartonshire Council area and Mid Galloway & Wigtown West 7th - 9th March
