Get the media reps to make posters to display around the hall for
example, common rooms, dining halls etc.
Recruiting in the dining hall for catered halls
Remember to always ask your committee, they are there to help
Ask the action hall reps WhatsApp chat as other halls may be able
to help you
If you are struggling to fill the project, you must let Ben and Jodie
know in the specific hall WhatsApp chat with at least 24 hours

Don’t keep messaging on it as people get annoyed but the
weekend before, they day before and the morning of simply

rather than last minute

Project Proposals

The best way to move up the league table is with
Project proposals
The document you need to submit is on the LSU action
website
You need to contact and organise the project before
submitting it to the HRC for the Action committee to
vote on it.
So give Ben at least 3 days notice!
The project must benefit the greater community with
realistic numbers for volunteers
Activity in groups: Make a practice proposal

13

On the projects

Both reps
should
go on your halls projects
Unless you have a good excuse e.g. illness,
coursework
Wear Action tops
Take lots of photos (helps you promote for
future projects)
Be professional (you are representing us)

14

League Table

The league table is what is used to see the position of the
halls throughout the year and to see who wins at the end of
the year
Points are given out as followed and have rewards at the
end of the year
1 point for each new volunteer you bring on a project
1 point every 10 hours a volunteer accumulates
1 point for every mile stone:
10-bronze, 25-silver, 50-gold, 100-platinum
So, if someone has 54 hours
1 for new
5 for every 10 hours
3 for the mile stones

Role Play

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN
THESE SITUATIONS?

17

1. What would you do in these
situations?

A child has fallen over and is crying.
A vulnerable person admits to you that they are being abused by another
person in their group.
A child has green and purple bruises on their knees.
A parent is impressed with the work that you have done with their child
and asks for your phone number to contact you to discuss working with
the child in the future.
You see a volunteer on their phone on the project.

18

2. What did the volunteers to right and
what did they do wrong?

Two volunteers after seeing a child misbehaving decide to take the child
to the side to work with them individually as to not ruin the experience for
the rest of the children.
The two volunteers, who are in a relationship, begin to hold hands.
One of the volunteers accidently swears in front of the child, but they think
that they didn’t hear them.
The child becomes distressed and leans towards one of the volunteers for
a hug. The volunteer, thinking that this will help calm the child,
reciprocates and keeps their arm around the child for the rest of the
session.

19

3. What would you do in this situation?

You are on a project with elderly people and one of the people start
making remarks that are clearly making one of your volunteers
uncomfortable.
One of your volunteers is a close friend of yours and you have seen on
social media that last night they had been heavily drinking. They come to
the project in the morning but they seem like they have gotten over it.
You are a project that works with vulnerable adults and one of your
volunteers starts talking about the party that they went to last night.
