Gathering Prayer* We gather our hearts. We hold one another in a virtual world. We come together as a community of caregivers who need your care O God. Give our hearts compassion and understanding. Give our hands skill and tenderness. 3
Gathering Prayer* Give our ears the ability to hear spoken and unspoken words. Give our eyes the ability to sense another s pain. Give us, God strength, as we seek to be present to so much uncertainty within ourselves and in others. Empower us to be voices of hope this day and every day. AMEN * Adapted from a prayer for NACC by NACC member Linda Bronersky 3

CPMC Mission The Catholic Prison Ministries Coalition (CPMC) promotes Catholic ministry to all those affected by incarceration. The goal of CPMC is to recruit, train, support and empower those called to this ministry. CPMC strives to create a more just and merciful criminal justice system closely aligned with the ministry and teaching of the Church and the example of Pope Francis. 29
CPMCs role 1. Address the wider reality of prison ministry today mostly volunteers, with some hired chaplains doing re-entry, advocacy and other work. 2. Create a national network of those involved in diverse correctional ministry settings https://www.catholicprisonministries.org 28
CPMCs Purpose To create opportunities to share resources and best practices to strengthen the Church s mission to advance restorative justice that upholds the dignity of every human person. Pilot Participant Comment It just gave me the feeling I m not alone, that there are resources to tap into that I didn t know about. There are other people who have the same longing to be able to enter into it more deeply. So I can do this job with the Holy Spirit and with all of you. That all the mistakes that I make are things I can learn from, especially I have all these materials that were sent. I can keep going back to them and saying, oh yes, that s a great idea. 36
Pilot Participant Comment It was a really big gift because I feel that doing this training actually gave me a sense of community in the ministry and some background before I had to deal with the logistics of the prison system. It helped me get to the heart of what it s about. 37
Pilot Participant Comment The spiritual grounding and competencies, it led discussion and forced us to focus on God as the facilitator in our work in serving others and bringing us together as a community as we serve together the people we have a privilege to serve. Its been a community building experience, one which brought practicality to our services and spiritual grounding. I appreciate everyone. 38
