Competency based Questions Tell me about a time when Give me an example of when you have used your communication skills

Using the STAR technique to answer competency based questions Situation outline the situation Task describe the task you had to carry out Action clearly describe how you completed the task and the steps taken Result tell the interviewer what happened as a result of your action (this should always be positive)

THE STAR TECHNIQUE Situation As part of my university course I was placed in a group where we had to advertise a product Task We had to think about who were our target audience and decide what advertising methods would be most effective and then design the campaign Action Here clearly outline how you worked together and the part you played. E.g. I was responsible for .. And we Result We received really positive feedback and the company who sponsored the project said this is an idea they would take forward

  6. Identifying Competency based questions Activity Using a job description you find on one of the job websites, identify 3 competencies required for the job and create two suitable competency questions

  7. Questions to ask at end of interview Stay away from questions around Training or progression Salary Size of team Holiday Anything that would affect you taking the role Benefit
