Marshmallow Slime Experiment: Microwave Time Impact
Exploring the impact of microwave duration on marshmallows for making slime, this experiment tested different times to observe how it affects marshmallow consistency and slime stretchiness. By varying microwave times, from 25 to 35 seconds, the researcher recorded changes in marshmallows and slime across nine trials. The hypothesis that less time results in softer marshmallows leading to more stretchy slime was tested. Through detailed procedures using marshmallows, oil, cornstarch, and powdered sugar, the experiment sought to improve the process of creating marshmallow slime.

Annalise Yorg Presents.. It s Time to Slime The Life of Marshmallows in a Microwave
How does the length of time in a microwave affect the marshmallows used to make marshmallow slime and how does that affect the length of the slime? Question 2
Less time in the microwave will make the marshmallows softer, which will make the slime stretch farther. Hypothesis More time in the microwave will make the marshmallows harder, which will make the slime stretch less. 3
I chose this project because slime is one thing that I like, but I don t get to make often. I made marshmallow slime once and it didn t come out correctly. I thought that the proportions and procedures were wrong. I wanted to find out how to correctly make marshmallow slime. Background Why this project was selected 4
TOOLS Bowl Spoon Microwave Tablespoon measuring spoon Procedures INGREDIENTS 6 jumbo marshmallows 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of cooking oil 1/2 to 1 tablespoon (4.69 to 9.38 grams) of cornstarch powder 1/4 cup (31.25 grams) of powdered sugar Hand full of sprinkles Tools and Ingredients 5
Add 6 jumbo Marshmallows into a mixing bowl with cooking oil. Start by pouring your 1 tablespoon(15 mL) of cooking oil into a large microwave-safe mixing bowl. Microwave the marshmallows and cooking oil for 30 seconds. Place the mixing bowl into the microwave. Set the temperature to High and the cooking time to 30 seconds. Procedures Knead the Marshmallow mixture and add cornstarch as needed. The act of squeezing your marshmallow paste into a slime with your hands is called kneading. Massage, roll, pull, and squeeze it together. Recipe for Marshmallow Slime Add 1/4 (31.25 grams) of powdered sugar to the mixture to thicken the slime. Just like the cornstarch, powdered sugar will thicken your mixture. 6
Three trials were performed Trials 1,2,3: Melted for 25 seconds on high in a 1110 watt microwave Trials 4,5,6: Melted for 30 seconds high in a 1110 watt microwave Trials 7,8,9 : Melted for 35 seconds high in a 1110 watt microwave The marshmallow consistency was observed after each trial, and was recorded. The marshmallows were used to make slime after each trial, and the slime length of stretch was recorded. Trials & Samples 7

Length of Slime Stretch vs. Appearance of Marshmallow After Microwaving 10
I thought that the less time the marshmallows spent in the microwave the softer they would be, and more time in the microwave would make the marshmallows harder. I was correct. When I measured the length of the slime after each trial, I found that the marshmallows that spent less time in the microwave stretched father. Conclusion 11
I learned a lot from this project. I thought that the time in the microwave would affect the length of the slime, and I was right. If I were to do this project again, I would try to see how different brands of marshmallows would affect the length of the slime, because I think it would be cool to make slime again. I hope you try to make marshmallow slime sometime soon. Reflection 12
