Welcome to Dual Credit! In this presentation you should be able to find information regarding dual credit, available courses and requirements
Who Can Take Dual Credit Classes? Incoming freshmen through seniors Acceptance by South Plains College
Eligibility Demonstration of college readiness via TSI or through an exemption.
What Does It Mean To Be TSI Compliant? All public institutions of higher learning in Texas require incoming students document compliance with the Texas Success Initiative through an assessment of a qualifying exemption or waiver. The holistic advising and placement scae is deigned to support and accelerate entry into college-ready coursework.
Courses Not Requiring TSI Compliance Anthropology, Arts BCIS Biology 1408 & 1409 Chemistry Education Government History Humanities Music Psychology Sociology Spanish Speech
What Is The Cost For Dual Credit? Most classes cost $150 Some courses may require additional fees for textbooks or access codes Some math courses cost $200
What About Reimbursement? The L.I.F.E. Foundation will reimburse the cost of the course, but not fees or additional materials needed for the course Students must pay for the course and reimbursement eligibility will be determined based on guidelines set by the L.I.F.E. foundation
Are Dual Credit Courses Hard? Yes and no Keep in mind that dual credit courses are college courses Most courses are online You must be disciplined and dedicated to staying on top of coursework to ensure assignments are turned in on time
How Do Dual Credit Grades Affect My Future? These grades are on your college transcript Future employees will want to see your college transcript Your college GPA will affect whether or not you are accepted into your program of study at the university level Your financial aid will also be affected by your GPA
Why Should I Take Dual Credit? Allows you to get a start on your college career Able to graduate from college sooner You will accrue less debt for your college education Get basics or core courses complete to be able to focus on your major or area of interest
How Do I Apply For Dual Credit Courses? Talk to your counselor about dual credit courses Complete the SPC dual credit application Determine whether or not you need to take the TSI Take the TSI if needed and pass sections needed to take courses Turn in TSI score report to your counselor, she will get you registered through SPC Once you are registered, you will need to pay and show your receipt to your counselor
Dual Credit Payment Options Students can pay their bill online by logging into MySPC clicking on the Texan Connect icon, then clicking on Student Bill choice. Students also have the option to set up a payment plan Students may also call the Dual Credit Office at 806-716-2340 to pay in full with a debit/credit card. Students are also welcome to pay in-person at the SPC campus with cash, card or check. Students who qualify, may also use the tuition waiver issued by the state of Texas or through the Hazlewood Act.
