Independent Study Preparing for your semester!
Put your name, First And GPA on your application. You must ae above a 3.0 GPA to participate in an independent study. ONLY Seniors are eligible to participate in an independent study.
Second Answer the following questions on the application, including the proposed course title. Really think through these questions and answer them in depth.
Third Create a syllabus and grading rubric to turn in with this application. No proposal will be accepted without a syllabus or grading rubric so read these guidelines carefully.
Fourth This section of the application describes specifics about the final public exhibition. Read this carefully and start putting together your assessment committee early in the project.
Sign your name, Get a parent signature, Fifth And your independent study advisors signature. Turn this form back in to the Counseling Center, here, a committee will determine your eligibility to complete an independent study.
Sixth This is what the time sheet you will turn in at the end of the semester will look like. If you have any questions or need help, please stop by the Counseling Center!
Expectations During Your Semester
Make sure to fill in your hours log. It should reflect 90 hours invested in your Independent Study this semester. Hours Log At the end of the semester give your hours log to your Burris supervising teacher.
You should be writing weekly journals (paper or electronic) of what you are learning/experiencing during your Independent Study. This will help you as you create your Final Project. Weekly Journals At the end of the semester turn in your journals to your Burris supervising teacher.
Essays/ Literature Reviews/ Research Based on your Independent Study Proposal, you might have included essays, literature reviews, projects, or research. Make sure to turn those in during the assigned weeks to your Burris supervising teacher.
Make sure that you are engaged with what you are experiencing at your Independent Study. Your focus during that hour each day should be on what you are studying. Attitude and Involvement Don t procrastinate on working on your projects keep working on them consistently throughout the semester.
*Remember, you need to invite a school counselor, administrator, teacher, and two community members to your final presentation. Final *Stay in contact and check in with your supervising teacher throughout the semester. Let them know how your Independent Study is going and show them your journal and time logs. Presentation *Your final presentation has to be completed before Finals week.
