Honors 9th Grade English Course Overview
This Honors 9th Grade English course led by Mrs. Martin covers a diverse range of literary works including short stories, poetry, plays, novels, and epics. Honors English 9 Honors 9th English Description: This class is a survey of short stories, poetry, non-fiction, plays, an epic, and novels. Students will gain experience in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking while studying a range of diverse literary works. This course will also introduce the elements of the composition process (prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing). The goal is for students to better understand and analyze the multiple dimensions of the human experience by examining this experience through literature. Course Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th Grade Honors Language Arts and/or CRC
Course Content :Each unit has a 100 point summative test and various formative assignments. Expectations for Hybrid Schedule 1. All students be present for their face to face days, unless ill. 2. All students on digital days log into Canvas and go to Modules. Click on the date and complete all work that is listed. All work is due that day unless another long-range date is given. You must do your work in order to be prepared for your next face to face session. 3. Be mindful of directions in Module. For example, if you are asked to put an assignment in your class notebook and bring it to your next face to face session, or if the directions instruct you to submit through the Assignment section in Canvas. 4. Communicate with me through Canvas email or school email. I will always check between class and answer you as soon as possible.
Face to Face Expectation 1. Students contribute to the class in positive ways, abide by social distancing rules, and treat every individual in the room with respect. 2. Students come to class on time and prepared every F2F day. 3. Students approach all assignments with a positive, respectful attitude. Failure to turn in an assignment will result in an immediate parent contact. 4. Students will use F2F time to get individualized instruction, ask questions, clarify assignments, arrange for tutoring time. 5. Cell phones are to be kept in the student s backpack. They are not to be taken out during class unless the teacher gives permission.
