EPSO What is an Early Postsecondary Opportunity? An Early Postsecondary Opportunity, or EPSO, is a high school course or program that gives a student the opportunity to gain college credit or industry certification. To earn an EPSO, the student must take the exam corresponding to the course or program and in some cases the student must earn a passing score on the exam to earn an EPSO.
Ready Graduate Ready Graduate are students who meet one of the following educational milestones: ACT Composite score of 21 or higher SAT score of 1060 or higher Four Early Post Secondary Opportunities(EPSOs) Two EPSOs & pass an industry certification Two EPSOs & a 31 on a military entrance exam - the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) and the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
Weighted grades in accordance to Board Policy 4.600 Final grades in Honors classes will be increased by 0.5 quality point. Final grades in any courses designated as an early postsecondary (EPSO) course, with the exception of local dual credit courses, will be increased by 1.0 quality points. This includes Dual Enrollment Courses, State-Wide Dual Credit Courses, Tennessee Specific Industry Certification Courses, and National Industry Certification Courses. Final grades in Local Dual Credit courses will be increased by 1.0 quality point, if the student takes the corresponding Local Dual Credit exam. If a student elects not to take the Local Dual Credit Exam, the student will receive an increase to his/her G.P.A. by 0.5 quality points. Final grades in Advanced Placement Courses will be increased by 1.0 quality point, if the student takes the corresponding Advanced Placement Exam. If a student elects not to take the Advanced Placement Exam, the student will receive an increase to his/her G.P.A. by 0.5 quality points.4 Assigning quality points above a 4.0 for any course(s) is not allowed for the purpose of determining eligibility for the lottery scholarship.
Honors Classes Designed to challenge and motivate students They include more independent study, self-directed research and learning, multiple assessments exemplifying coursework (such as short answer, constructed-response prompts, performance-based tasks, open-ended questions, essays, original or creative interpretations, authentic products, portfolios, and analytical writing). 3 points are added to the reporting period average The GPA is weighted by adding 0.5 quality points A = 4.5 B = 3.5 C = 2.5 D = 1.5
Advanced Placement Classes (AP) College-level class providing a rigorous postsecondary-level experience Each course is aligned to a subject-specific AP exam, which provides students the potential to earn credit for post-secondary coursework in that subject. Students may earn college credit by passing the AP exam. Each exam costs around $97 5 points are added to the reporting period average The GPA is weighted by 0.5 quality point. If the student elects to take the corresponding AP Exam the GPA increases by another 0.5 quality points, equalling 1.0 quality points. Students receive an EPSO upon passing the class. AP Courses we have offered at WHS: AP English 4, AP English 3, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Government, AP Microeconomics, AP US History, AP European History, AP Human Geography. There are a few AP courses available online.
Local Dual Credit Partnership with Cumberland University and MTSU Fee of $50-75 to take the challenge exam. Pass the Exam = Earn college credit at participating college or university 4 points are added to the reporting period average The GPA is weighted by 0.5 quality point. If the student elects to take the corresponding LDC Exam the GPA increases by another 0.5 quality points, equaling 1.0 quality points. Current Local Dual Credit Courses: Lifetime Wellness, Ag Leadership, Large Animal Science, Honors Vet Science, Ag Business & Finance, Plant Science, Personal Finance, Computer Applications
State-Wide Dual Credit Exam is free Pass the Exam = Earn college credit at most postsecondary institutions 4 points are added to the reporting period average Final grades in any courses designated as an early postsecondary (EPSO) course, with the exception of local dual credit courses, will be increased by 1.0 quality points. Students receive an EPSO upon passing the class. Current State Dual Credit Courses: Criminal Justice, American History, Criminal Justice, Intro to Business, Pre- Calculus, Psychology, Intro to Ag Business, Plant Science, Sociology
Dual Enrollment Open to students in the 11th and 12th grades with an unweighted 3.0 GPA, an ACT composite score meeting the partnering university s requirements, and ACT subscore meeting the ACT Readiness Benchmark in the subject area of enrollment. A College Professor comes to WHS for classes Juniors-English 101 and/or Psychology 100 Seniors-English 101, English 102, Algebra 101, and/or Psychology 100 Earn high school and college credit Weighted grades in accordance to Board Policy 4.600 GPA will be increased by 1.0 quality points Students receive an EPSO upon passing the class Students are responsible for: Seeking admission to the college or university Payment of college tuition and books Students should qualify for the Dual Enrollment Grant Verifying that the credit will be accepted at the university they plan to attend
DE Extreme & Early College Open 12th graders An unweighted 3.0 GPA 21 ACT with sub-scores of 22 in Mathematics and 20 in English Classes offered on Cumberland University s campus Will be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 12 hours per semester Students in the Early College Program have the opportunity to complete 60 semester hours of college credits in four semesters (5 courses each semester), completing the requirements for an Associate of Art degree at the same time that they complete their high school diploma. Graduating with Honors The ACT benchmarks: MUST score at or above the readiness benchmarks in all subject areas on the ACT (or equivalent score on the SAT) English - 18 Math 22 Reading- 22 Science 23
Graduating with Distinction Must attain a B (3.0 cumulative GPA or above) average and complete at least one of the following: Earn a nationally recognized industry certification Participate in the Governor s Schools Participate in an All State musical organization Be selected as a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist Attain a score of 31 or higher composite on the ACT Attain a score of 3 or higher on at least two AP exams Earn 12 or more semester hours of dual enrollment college credit Earn statewide recognition or award at a skill or knowledge based state tournament, convention, or competition hosted by a statewide student organization, and/or qualify for national recognition by a national student organization
ACT Our schools goal is a score of 21. As of now Juniors will take the ACT in the Spring and Seniors will take in the Fall. If you plan to enroll in Dual Enrollment classes you will need to sign up and take the ACT at www.act.org College Scholarships base a lot of their monies on ACT scores. There are ACT prep classes offered for grades 10th- 12th.
Latin Honors Designations In accordance to Wilson County Schools Board Policy 4.602 Effective with students enrolled as ninth-graders in 2018 and thereafter, students will receive the Latin Honors Designation categories, based upon the following criteria: Summa Cum Laude: 4.25 and above Magna Cum Laude: 4.00-4.24 Cum Laude: 3.75-3.99
Valedictorian & Salutatorian In accordance to Wilson County Schools Board Policy 4.602 Starting with the 2023-2024 graduating class, the following criteria will be used to choose the Valedictorian and Salutatorian: Student must have been enrolled in a Wilson County High School for a minimum of four semesters; Student must qualify for the highest Latin System honor awarded in the respective school; Student must complete a minimum of 3 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, sit for AP exams for all AP courses taken, and score 3 or higher on 66% of exams; Student will participate in at least 20 hours of community service. Students must provide documentation of the completed community service hours to their counselor; Student must attain the highest grade point average; In the event multiple students meet the aforementioned criteria, then the highest achieved ACT score will serve as the final determining criterion.
