The Florida Entomological Society presented various awards at their 2018 Annual Meeting in St. Augustine, Florida. Steven M. Valles was recognized as the Entomologist of the Year for his work on identifying and characterizing viruses in ants. Wayne B. Hunter received the Annual Achievement Award for Research for his contributions to vector management. Robert B. Hickman was honored with the Annual Achievement Award for Industry for his educational efforts on pesticide use. The society also appreciated Rui-De Xue, the past president, with an award. Additionally, the Pioneer Lecture Award was given to Robert Vander Meer and John Ruberson for their research in biological control and chemical ecology of the Red Imported Fire Ant.
