Presentation Transcript

  1. Exploring & Classifying Triangles

  2. Triangle Sort Sort the triangles into three groups so that no triangle belongs into more than one group. Once you have sorted them, get one sticky note per each group. Then label your groups with sticky notes to identify the attribute(s) they have in common.

  3. Let's Try It Again! Sort your triangles into three new groups so that no triangle belongs into more than one group. Once you have sorted them, get one sticky note per each group. Then label your groups with sticky notes to identify the attribute(s) they have in common.

  4. Now lets look at some of the vocabulary we can use to describe and sort triangles

  5. Triangles can be classified by: Sides: Isosceles Scalene No sides are the same length. Equilateral All sides are the same length. At least 2 sides are the same length. Angles: Right Acute Obtuse Has 1 angle that is an obtuse angle (greater than 90 degrees). Has one angle that is a right (90 degree) angle. All 3 angles are acute (less than 90 degrees).

  6. Creating Triangles Use the AngLegs and your knowledge of the types of triangles to try to create a triangle that fits both labels on the chart. Isosceles Equilateral Scalene Right Acute Sketch your triangle on the chart. Obtuse

  7. Which two triangles were impossible to make? Why?
