WHERE? Pingxi is a rural district situated in the eastern part of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan, it s approximately an hour outside of Taipei
HISTORY the Sky Lantern Festival originated in the Xing Dynasty, more than two thousand years ago refugees raided the village and the inhabitants fled to the mountains their famielies used fire balloons as signals to inform the refugees that their houses were safe when they saw flares on the sky, the knew that is the time to go home
WHEN? HOW? the Sky Lantern Festival is held in february people write their wishes on fire lanterns and release them into the sky en masse, creating a beautiful spectacle of floating lights.
