So What is EI? 5 The ability to recognize your emotions, understand what they mean, and how they affect others. A variety of noncognitive abilities, capabilities, and skills that influence one s ability to succeed and cope with demands, pressures, and change (Jaeger, 2003; Bar-On, 1997a, p.3).

In a study conducted by Jaeger (2003), she found a strong relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance.
