  1. Year 2 English Spring Week 1

  2. Wednesday 6thJanuary 2021 Phonics: Play the plurals game by clicking on this link: Pond Life Phonics Play Writing Task I would like you to write about what you did over the Christmas holidays. WSWE Were you lucky enough to meet up with your family on Christmas day? Did you go for any nice walks and see anything interesting? Did you watch any amazing films? Did your family eat any unusual food or have an alternative celebration? Did you get any presents? Write the long date at the top of the page and underline it using a ruler. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end them with a full stop. Don t forget to use finger spaces and your neatest handwriting. Challenge yourself to include as many adjectives as you can (describing words such as: sparkling, enormous, excited or beautiful).

  3. Thursday 7thJanuary 2021 Phonics: We are learning a new spelling pattern with words ending in dge . Copy the grid into your book using a pencil and ruler. Doing one word at a time, take a careful look at the first word and then have a go at saying it. Next, use a scrap piece of paper or book to cover the word and try writing it in the 1sttry column. Then check it to see if you got it correct. Cover it again and write the word in the 2ndtry column. Check it and then try again in the 3rdtry column. Do this for every word filling in the grid as far as dodge and leave the rest for tomorrow. WSWE

  4. Writing Task Think about the presents you got for Christmas. Which one was your favourite? I would like you to quickly draw a picture of it and colour it in. What type of word is toy ? Is it a noun a verb or an adjective? Remember nouns can be people; Mrs Mills is a noun and Boris is a noun, places; London is a noun and so is Hitchin, and things are nouns, so a car is a noun and so is a doll s house or a football. WSWE Toy is a noun. When we write a sentence describing a noun this is called an expanded noun phrase. I would then like you to write a few expanded noun phrases describing your favourite toy. Write each sentence on a new line so it is clear. Write the long date at the top of the page and underline it using a ruler. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end them with a full stop. Don t forget to use finger spaces and your neatest handwriting. Include as many adjectives as you can (describing words such as: gigantic, teeny, quick or colourful).

  5. Friday 8th January 2021 Phonics: Fill in the rest of your words ending in dge in your spelling table. Writing Task Listen to the story of Goldilocks and the three bears by clicking on the link: Goldilocks and the three bears What did we learn about the characters in the story? Where was Goldilocks found? WSWE Take a look at this sentence from the story: Goldilocks was a little girl with long golden hair. What do we learn about Goldilocks from this sentence? Are there any nouns or adjectives in this sentence? (Nouns: Goldilocks, girl and hair. Adjectives: little, long and golden) Is this an expanded noun phrase? Yes! When something is expanded it means it becomes larger. For your task today I would like you to write an expanded noun phrase about one or more these characters. Daddy bear, Mommy bear or Baby bear.
