Pink Team Purpose

To play an effective role in the proposal process, the pink team must accomplish
the following:
Validate the proposal strategy (technical, management, and cost)
Validate all win themes
Verify that each proposal section will support the proposal strategy and
effectively use the approved win themes
Perform a down select of resumes and past performance that support the
proposal strategy/win themes
Provide the proposal team direction and guidance based on knowledge of
the customer, the team, technology, and industry best practices.

Pink Team Process and Products

Each reviewer will bear primary responsibility for one section of the proposal and
secondary responsibility for a second
Review with the goal of completing each of the five accomplishments on the
preceding slide for your primary section first
The final results of the pink team must be collected by the team leader,
consolidated, and a consensus reached. This includes consolidating:
Pink Team Critique Sheets for each reviewed section
All marked up review copies
Any other reviewer notes and comments

Guidelines for Useful Comments

Do:
Review assigned sections with the purpose and
needs of the customer—not yours—in mind
Evaluate the content, messages, and effectiveness
of both text and visuals
Consult with other technical experts if you need
further information
Support other reviews who need your expertise
Give specific suggestions to authors regarding how
to present both text and graphics
Meet the deadlines you have been given
Discuss your comments with the writer (one-on-
one) after the review to explain your
recommendations
DOCUMENT YOUR FINDINGS
using comment forms
to communicate with authors and proposal
management

Don’t:
Edit a document for grammar or mechanics
(leave that for the editor)
Criticize writing style (look for accuracy of
content)
Comment on information outside your area of
expertise
Rework page layouts
Redesign formats
Revise information simply so that it sounds
better to you; focus instead on substantive
content
Make vague, unclear comments like: “This
section stinks,” “This is incorrect,” or “Rewrite
this.” Give specific suggestions to improve the
section.
