Recruitment Set up in locations where your fellow tenants frequent most. 0 Lobby sign-ups 0 Schedule a few hours to set up a table in your lobby. Speak to tenants about building issues and future involvement in your association. 0 Community Event appearance 0 Getting involved in local events creates another chance to find tenants within your building. 0 Partner with local organizations 0 Utilizing existing community networks is a helpful way to identify and/or reach out to tenants in your building who use local social services.
Organizational Structure Find the structure that best suits your group dynamic! Steering Committee Board Appointed President Organizer 1 Organizer 3 Organizer 2 Vice Treasurer President Etc Etc Etc
Communication 0 Utilize group messaging services to keep all association members in the loop (WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.) 0 Create an online presence to keep other tenants updated on common area issues, meetings, actions, goals etc. (Google Groups, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) 0 Schedule lobby info sessions to build rapport and gather new information from tenants (i.e. don t become an echo chamber of a few tenant issues)
Record Keeping 0 Develop methods to track and monitor common area tenant issues. 0 A Tenant Association email account can help organize and maintain records with little to no effort. 0 Include a method for tenants to loop the association in on personal tenant issues (i.e. email cc). 0 Assign a minute taker in order to track meeting goals and outcomes.
Avoiding Burn Out 0 Be realistic about the amount of time you can give the association 0 Each duty should be shared between several association members 0 Develop project specific committees 0 Keep the energy going by organizing a BBQ or Potluck every few months to connect with one another 0 Be clear to other tenants about your on call and off call requirements. (You re not superheroes!)
