4-H Camp You (the agent) notice a nail sticking up from a board at the girls bunkhouse. You mention it to the camp program director. The next day, they are calling you on the radio to come to the clinic. A camper was running to her bunk, to change clothes to swim, and sliced her foot on the nail that was still sticking up. She has to be transported to the hospital for stitches and a tetanus booster.
Across program areas You (the agent) have reserved the district van for an event. It was the only one available and you felt lucky to reserve it. When you arrive to pick it up, the UAA informs you that there are issues with the van just cutting off at random. It did not happen the last 2 times it was driven though, and they could not find anything wrong at the garage it was taken to. Knowing there is no time now to just rent a van to transport everyone to the event, you drive it anyway. On the interstate, the van cuts off and causes an accident. Folks in the van are injured, as well as the car that hit you.
4-H Equine Club During a horse club mounted meeting, a younger sibling (cloverbud age) of a member asked to ride with the group. After 5 minutes of whining, the leader relinquished and allowed the child to ride. Not long after getting on, her horse spooked and she fell off, breaking her arm.
4-H Camp During Archery class at 4-H Camp the staff member who was teaching the class decided to let the teen leader and TAP run the line, as the staff member sat back on the table about 30 from the line to watch. As the campers are shooting, one child keeps her finger over the arrow and as she shoots, the fletching slices it and some are embedded in her finger, requiring medical attention.
4-H Junior Master Gardener Club The local master gardeners lead a 4-H Junior Master Gardener Club. At the end of a meeting, as the parents are picking up their children, a mom shows up to get her daughter, who is not there. Turns out, the daughter got into one of her friend s parent s car to ride home with her. That car is involved in an accident and the daughter is hurt and has to be transported to the hospital.
ANR You are holding a field day at a farm. You have worked with the farmer before and know that he usually keeps his farm in good condition. You show up the day of the event and set up 30 minutes prior to the start of the field day. Participants start showing up and looking around before the event gets officially started. One of the participants trips over a tractor implement that was hidden by some tall grass and cuts their hand open.
ANR You are hosting a workshop for your Master Gardeners at a rented community center. On the way in, one of your EMGs slips on a patch of ice on the sidewalk and breaks her leg.
ANR During a farm visit, you are looking at a herd of cows with the farmer. One of his cows charges the two of you and the farmer slips and is butted hard by the cow and goes flying. You just manage to escape before she comes after you.
FCS You are holding a hands-on canning class at a local community center since they have a nice kitchen with space for the class. You arrive early to set-up and prepare the space for the class. The participants are making strawberry- kiwi jam. The participants are engaged in all steps necessary to make the jam, from washing the fruit, preparing the fruit, cooking, putting the jam in the jars and canning the product. As the agent, you are providing step by step instructions and watching the participants, providing assistance where necessary. While you are talking to one of the participants about cutting the strawberries to the proper size another participant cuts their hand while cutting the strawberries. You realize you did not think about bringing a first aid kit and you do not know if the facility has one. The cut is deep and bleeding badly.
FCS You and Master Volunteers are preparing for a local foods cooking demonstration at the Farmers Market late Friday afternoon. You are talking to the market manager about demonstration times while the volunteers set up the tent, tables, and cooking stations. During one of the demonstrations a gust of wind blows the tent over and across the parking lot. The tent lands on a new vehicle breaking the windshield and damaging the hood. The owner is very upset and wants your information and demands to know how you plan to fix their vehicle as they are leaving for vacation the next day. You can not reach your UC and you do not have an emergency card with who to contact.
