Describe a situation where you would see sympathy given to a person? Describe a situation where empathy would give you understanding? 3

NSW Department of Education Activities What you need to do 1. Form groups of about 3 people 2. Rotate between the 3 stations 3. Complete the tasks and reflection activities on the worksheet. 7
NSW Department of Education Station 1 Simulates an older person who has lost strength in their arms One person lays on the ground on their side. Another student hands them a ball or object to hold behind their back Once the person on the ground is holding the object, they then try to stand up Crew members must ensure that the person does not fall but cannot help them stand Complete the reflection exercise on the worksheet. 8
NSW Department of Education Station 2 Simulates a person who has lost a hand and has a prosthetic limb Sit down and untie your shoelaces Use the tongs in one hand and retie your laces Complete the reflection exercises on your worksheet. 9
NSW Department of Education Station 3 Simulates a person with a severe vision impairment Blindfold one member of your crew As a crew, set up a simple obstacle course using the cones provided while the person cannot see Using only your voices, talk the person through the obstacle course Make sure someone is next to the person to ensure their safety, but this person cannot speak 10
