Working towards establishing a Canadian Association for Child and Youth Advocacy Centres (CACs and CYACs) to provide support and services for children who have experienced abuse. The journey from inception to development of a business plan is outlined, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, funding, and strategic planning. The vision is to ensure that all children and youth impacted by abuse have access to high-quality services and support nationwide.

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres How we got to where we are today Built from the Report on the Feasibility and State of Readiness in the Sector for a National Association (October 2017) National Meeting Discussion in 2019 & 2020 Working group established in April 2021 to work on a launch plan with external strategic facilitator Working group disbanded and Steering Committee formed in March, 2022 to develop a Business Plan, working with external contractor Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Business Plan Snapshot Governance Model Interim Governance Council for one year until entity established Terms of Reference established by Steering Committee 5 individuals to serve as Interim Governance Council Role is to facilitate the launch of the Association and it will have the decision-making authority required to do so Responsibility to communicate regularly to the National Network and Department of Justice Oversee the contract and required deliverables with the Association Management Consulting Company Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Business Plan Snapshot Governance Model After entity is established, skills-based governance Board to be formed Twelve voting members approved by Council, selected through a geographic, linguistic, and EDI lens Skill sets to be represented on the board: research, government relations, communication, financial management, and revenue development Must include at least six individuals who work in different CYACs from across the country who represent different models of operation, as well as at least two individuals from partner sectors (e.g - policing, academic, medical). All Board positions are unpaid A representative from Justice Canada will be invited to sit as an ex officio advisor on the Board. When necessary, the Board will move in camera and the representative from Justice Canada will not participate. Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Business Plan Snapshot Deliverables Establishing the legal entity: type, model, bylaws (Year 1) Start-up: Policies, Funding, Strategies, Membership Model, Services (Year 1) Advocacy at the Federal Level (Year 1 and onward) Increasing profile and credibility of the goals of the CYAC model to key national decision- makers, national partners, national stakeholders, and potential national funding partners; Building and ongoing tailoring of a consistent storyline about the social value of CYACs and creating tools/resources for use by the local CYAC s in their own advocacy and communication efforts; Serving as a national thought leader to help to shape relevant federal policy, regulatory and legislative matters (where appropriate) and taking advantage of opportunities to offer guidance and build profile; Providing support to CYACs on provincial advocacy as appropriate and as capacity allows. A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Business Plan Snapshot Deliverables Facilitating Collaboration & Partnership (Year 1 and onward) Creating opportunities to share best practices and leverage existing knowledge resources amongst individual CYACs and regional/provincial networks; Amplifying the awareness and access to research being done at CYACs throughout Canada, as well as internationally; Identifying research gaps that may be of national interest and considering how these gaps can be addressed; Building and maintaining a virtual knowledge mobilization and networking system for CYACs; Linking the work of regional networks and individual provinces/territories to national initiatives; Offering national training and education opportunities (in-person and virtual); Supporting national meetings and eventually leading an annual national conference. A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Business Plan Snapshot Deliverables Guidelines and quality assurance (Year 2/3 onward) Develop national quality assurance program to be developed in close consultation with sector and government Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres The Budget To achieve the deliverables outlined in the business plan Annual service contract with Association Management Company: $175,000/yr x 2 years = $350,000 Additional costs external to contract (meeting expenses, travel of Interim Governing Council, etc) $25,000/yr x 2 years = $50,000 Total required: $400,000 over two years Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast

A Canadian Association for Child & Youth Advocacy Centres Next steps Business Plan to be circulated to the Network members with feedback form (survey) provided Steering Committee will review feedback; if there are material items to address or clarify, we will do so either by special virtual meeting or as an agenda item at the May National Network call Funding to be secured Association management company to be selected Steering Committee to draft Terms of Reference for Interim Governing Council Steering Committee to seek applications to Interim Governing Council and appoint members Creating bright futures for children from coast to coast to coast
