Todays Objective Our Aim today : To start to build the Vision for Indoor Leisure potentially complete it ! A vision that is relevant , realistic and meaningful to you Your Role.. To get stuck in and help to build that vision To think about what the vision should include (and shouldn t) Hopefully an element of fun!
Competitive Spirit! Two Teams 10 Statements and 10 organisations Just Match them correctly Win a fabulous prize 10 Minutes!
Observations Which where most effective and why? Which didn t you like and why?
Project Background Background: Significant invest in Indoor Leisure - ( 40m) Not simply a construction project Seen by members/officer/unions as catalyst for wider transformation of whole of Indoor Leisure improving service outcomes and satisfaction levels Blue print for how to operate an `in house ` service that competes in every way with commercial competitors Lots of Transformation activity planned (JD`s / Swim Programme/New ways of working) Combination of lower net costs and higher income necessary to achieve the stated goal of 750,000 reduction in level of subsidy
That doesnt guarantee success - Need to underpin all of that invest and effort in plan , a Vision . Something that focuses each and everyone towards one common shared goal..
The Boring Bit Vision: Defines the desired or intended future state of a specific organisation in terms of its objectives or direction usually linked to a specific period of time,
What is a Vision Vision: Short sentence or tagline, that defines where an organisation want`s to go/or be An expression/description of that oganisations future state of being Theme that inspires and connects people Common view of how things should be Must reflect your ambition for Indoor Leisure what you want to achieve and how you want to get there must be realistic can you be `world class` immediately? It Must have meaning!
Developing our Vision Why does Indoor Leisure exist? What does success/failure look like? What`s different to today? Why does it matter? What worked /failed? How do you know it succeeded/failed? What measures will you use? What are people saying? Was it all plain sailing? What next?
Exercise observations What are the Key messages and words you used Why are they important Will others agree with you? Do you all agree what success /failure looks and feels like Have we missed anything?
Building the Vision 1. At the table: Individually spend about 5 minutes capturing words/phrases that you feel should /could form part of Indoor Leisure's Vision Might help to think about it in terms of 4 themes below but don t let that restrict you Objective here is to start to actually capture those words/phrases that will become the Vision Use as many as you need Remember what we said about what makes a good Vision and why Think about 5 years forward 2. Consolidate your Ideas: Pop your Post Its under the question it relates to or the `other` section 1. 2. 3. 4. What does success look/feel like in Indoor Leisure be specific if you can How do you measure that behaviours/KPI`s/evidence/opinion/recognition When will you achieve that by when/before x/between y ..how will you describe it ` no later than` ` before` ` in` Why do you want to achieve that? Why does Indoor Leisure want to achieve that?
