Health Information Important Note: 7thGrade immunization requirements include: 1 dose of Tdap Booster if at least five years have passed since the last dose 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine 2 doses of Varicella vaccine on or after the first birthday (separated by at least 1 month OR a statement that your child has had the Chicken Pox illness) Please make sure that your child has had these updates to their immunizations AND that you have provided a copy of the shot record to your child's school nurse so that his/her records can be updated. YOUR CHILD WILL BE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE 7thGRADE UNLESS THEIR IMMUNIZATIONS ARE UP TO DATE

  4. 2017 STAAR TEST 8thgraders will take the Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies STAAR test 8thgrade STAAR for 2017 will be a Student Success Initiative (SSI) year for Reading and Math; they must meet level II (satisfactory) performance to be promoted Students will have 3 opportunities 7thgraders will take the Writing, Math and Reading STAAR test.

  5. 7thGrade Subject Selection You will have 7 classes next year. Core Subjects English, Reading, Math, Science & Texas History PE or Major Sports Elective 1 Full Year

  6. 7thGrade Math 7thgrade offers two levels of math classes Academic or PreAp/GT Academic math teaches the objectives for 7thgrade math. Students will take the 7thgrade STAAR Math test. PreAp/GT math teaches some of the 7thgrade math objectives and all of the 8thgrade math objectives. Students will take the 8thgrade STAAR Math test.

  8. Jr High Students taking High School Credit High school credit courses count toward high school grade point average (GPA). Academic is 60/40 Major/Minor - Spanish I, French I, Spanish for Spanish Speakers and any of the Principles courses. PAP is 70/30 Major/Minor - Algebra

  9. Junior High Grade Calculation Academic grade weight for major grades 50% Academic grade weight for minor grades 50% PreAp grade weight for major grades 60% PreAp grade weight for minor grades 40% Academic and PreAp will have the following Minimum # of Minor Grades 6 Minimum # of Major Grades 3

  10. 8th Grade Subject Selection You will have 7 classes next year. Core Subjects English/Language Arts, Math, Science, US History PE or Major Sports 2 Year Long Electives

  11. 8th Grade Electives Year Long Electives Art Band Choir Theater Arts Gateway to Careers Career and Technology Journalism/Yearbook (application required) Foreign Language

  12. High School Credit Year Long Electives French I and II Spanish I and II Spanish for Spanish Speakers Pre Ap Algebra I Career Technology Courses: Principles of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Principles of Hospitality and Tourism Principles of Applied Engineering

  13. Physical Education Must dress out Must participate Grade will reflect participation and dressing out Do not compete in UIL events Do not need a physical Dance/Pe is an option for 8th graders Color Guard/Pe is an option for 7th and 8th graders

  14. Major Sports Must dress out Must participate Must be passing all of your classes in order to participate in major sports events Must have physical from doctor prior receiving equipment or trying out

  15. Major Sports Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Track Physicals will be held on May 4th at Foster Approximately $25 During the school day - Briscoe students 4:00pm 6:00pm Wertheimer students

  17. Online Course Selection Students are required to enter their course request online in Skyward. Students use their Skyward login and select year 17-18 course request and enter the electives 7th graders select one request and two alternates 8th graders select two requests and two alternates Online student/parent access opens February 1st (4:00pm) and closes February 13th (8:00am)
