What is Dual Enrollment?

Two types:

Early College Program
◦
Preselected rising 9
th
graders who meet specific criteria
◦
ONLY rising 9
th
graders can apply!
◦
Program is designed for students to graduate with Associates of Arts degree at the end of high school
◦
Traditional Dual Enrollment
◦
College courses that will show up on College and High School transcript
◦
Available to all high school students with 3.0 or higher unweighted GPA
◦
Must provide own transportation
◦
Courses available at Tocoi OR SJR (or any of their platforms)
◦
Must be able to handle college level, independent academic experience
◦
Able to earn AA or take just a few credits
General Information
◦
Courses can be taken at TCHS, at SJR or through one of SJR’s platforms
◦
There are a variety of formats (online, day classes, evening classes, etc)
◦
The course schedule is dictated by SJR!!
◦
Transportation is the
STUDENT’S
responsibility
◦
Students must pay
close attention
to the college schedule – college and high school start/end dates,
holidays, and breaks are not always the same. It is the
STUDENT’S
responsibility to keep up with the
information!!
◦
Full time Dual Enrollment students can participate in extracurricular activities, clubs and student activities
(Prom, Homecoming, etc); however, it is THEIR responsibility to get the information in order to meet deadlines
(i.e. read The BullPen, speak with friends, etc)
◦
Students must access the SJR email system REGULARLY!! This is how the college will communicate with
the student not through personal email and/or the parent!
General Information
**THE BELOW INFORMATION APPLIES TO STUDENTS TAKING CLASSES AT TCHS AS WELL AS OFF CAMPUS DE**

PARENTS – there is no HAC! The college will
NOT
communicate with you.
◦
Students must be extremely responsible and prepared to balance the demands of high school and college.
◦
Communication will be with the student NOT the parent through the student’s
college email address
.
◦
ALL
Dual Enrollment courses will be reflected on the high school
AND
college transcript
◦
If a student receives IEP or 504 services, he/she
MUST
declare through the student disabilities services
department to receive accommodations. Even high school site students will
NOT
receive accommodations, if
the request isn’t on file with the college.
◦
Dual Enrollment students can access all SJR resources – tutoring, writing center, library, etc.
AP vs. Dual Enrollment
◦
Advanced Placement:
◦
Courses expose students to college level rigorous coursework, but students can REQUEST college
credit be placed on their college transcript based on their test performance on the AP exam.
◦
College Credit is NOT automatically added to the student’s college transcript.
◦
Curriculum is widely recognized by all colleges/universities
◦

Courses are college level courses that begin a student’s
COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT
. Every college level
DE course taken will appear on a student’s high school

TEXTBOOK INFORMATION

Off campus dual enrollment textbooks are checked out (loaned) to SJCSD students
through the Media Services Department located at 10 Hildreth Drive in St. Augustine.

VERIFY THAT IT IS ISSUED ALONG WITH
YOUR BOOKS!!!

Textbooks will only be issued weekdays between the hours of
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m

PRINTED COPY
OF YOUR SCHEDULE AS PROOF OF

3. Sign up for DE class (if taking DE class at TCHS); OR watch out for the SJR
schedule

Dual Enrollment Program offers two types of courses for high school students: Early College Program for preselected rising 9th graders aiming for an Associates of Arts degree, and traditional college courses for high school students with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Students must handle college-level academic work independently and can participate in extracurricular activities. The program requires students to be responsible for their academic schedules, transportation, and communications with the college. Different from Advanced Placement courses, Dual Enrollment courses appear on both high school and college transcripts, impacting scholarship eligibility.
