Convo with DR Timings 10 mins daily, within Writing Regular, rapid recaps, not coverage you don t need to use all of the slides When will you make this harder? Remove rule Remove colour Add exceptions to rules Y3/4 vs Y5/6 HAs that always get these right: Build banks of words that follow the rules Apply rule in writing eg use as many examples within a sentence(s) Go out with a TA for harder words
Email to OC These could be adapted to suit the needs of particular classes, so if you knew your class struggled with piece/peace, you could include that until they'd got it. The HFWs would either just be said when they were on screen (really rapidly, if you've seen phonics teaching), the teacher would ask for each word to be written quickly on whiteboards, or a mixture. The spelling rule slides use words that are nearly all pretty basic. These could be made harder once children are in the swing of it and making few errors with easier ones. The 'double up for a short vowel sound' slides would just need a teacher to say the word, children write it and then show it on screen. The slide for the next two rules could just need children to write the second version of each word on their whiteboards, with the first one shown on screen, or later the words could be just said instead of shown (harder). Perhaps we could treat spelling like we have arithmetic by having a 20 word test on Friday including 10 of this week's and 10 HFW/spelling rule words. Commonly misspelled words would then form part of the rapid recap. Writing lessons will include 10 mins of this.
