Program funded by CT State Dept. of Education, Bureau of Special Education, currently recruiting for 3rd cohort. Year-long initiative to prepare future special education leaders under Mary Beth Bruder's direction. UCEDD, a national network focusing on developmental disabilities, operates under 4 core functions and emphasizes Early Childhood intervention, Schools, Health, and Quality of Life. Current status: Recruiting 25 members for the upcoming summer program, running until June 2025 with no cost, not a replacement for 092 certification.

Overview of Program Overview of Program Funded by the CT State Dept of Education, Bureau of Special Education Currently recruiting for our 3rdcohort Based on a program that was developed in Virginia which is currently recruiting for their 16thcohort A year long program established to help prepare potential leaders for futures in special education Currently being run under the direction of Mary Beth Bruder, Director of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities UCEDD and a statewide steering committee

  3. UCEDD UCEDD The UCEDD is part of a national network of centers authorized under the Developmental Disabilities Act. The purpose is to assure that indiviuals with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of and have access to needed community services, individualized supports and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, integration and inclusion in all facets of the community through culturally competent programs.

  6. Current Status Current Status Recruiting for our 3rdcohort Will accept up to 25 members in the cohort Program will begin this summer and run through early June, 2025 There is no cost to join the academy The program does not take the place of an 092 certification

Purpose of Aspiring Leaders Program Purpose of Aspiring Leaders Program The academy will prepare educators interested in special education leadership roles through a competency-based program as illustrated by state and national speakers and learning activities that will culminate in a capstone project.

Applicant Qualifications Applicant Qualifications Masters degree in special education or related field Current 092 certification or interest in pursuing an 092 certification Multiple years of experience in special education or related field Interest in pursuing a leadership position in the next 1-3 years

  11. Logistics of the Program Logistics of the Program In person orientation held at Avon Old Farms Hotel July 15-16, 2024 including an overnight stay (funded by program). School year sessions will be a combination of mid- week early evening zoom sessions and approximately 5 in-person all day Saturday sessions. Attendance at all sessions is expected unless excused by program leaders. All content is archived on the Canvas learning platform.

  12. Assignments Assignments There is a series of short assignments, culminating in a capstone project We recognize all participants are full time employees with very busy schedules and lives Time in sessions dedicated to working on assignments

Example of Assignments Example of Assignments Personal action plan for the program Review of a district policy Completion of a data scavenger hunt (done during a Saturday session) Analysis of your district data and suggestion for area in need of professional development Culmination of the above in a capstone project that will be presented to the group on the final day of the academy with a 10-minute presentation
