Our HomeSharing program offers a permanent housing solution where individuals can receive a private room, reduced rent in exchange for services, companionship, and more.   1. Overview Established 39 years ago in Somerset County. Our Mission is: To create affordable housing solutions by matching those seeking housing with those who need additional income or services to maintain their homes, while fostering independence and dignity. Currently work in Central and Northern New Jersey with a planned expansion to parts of Southern Jersey (Monmouth and Ocean Counties).

  2. HomeSharing is a permanent housing solution for those who have a home and need additional income, companionship or help to remain in their home or those looking for more affordable housing and are amenable to living in someone s home. All our services are all provided at no cost to the client!

  3. Basic Parameters Person sharing will receive a private room, private or shared bathroom and share other common areas of the home (kitchen, living room) not just renting a room Basic criteria seeker must have consistent income average homeowner asks $700 range tends to be $650 to $850/ month. This usually includes utilities. Provider homeowner must have income and be able to sustain the home with additional income from the Seeker

  4. Service Arrangements Reduced rent in exchange for services Examples include cleaning, yard work, shoveling snow or walking the dog For elderly or disabled homeowners: Someone who can call in case of an emergency Prepare or set out meals, grocery shopping Rides to doctor s appointments Companionship No hands on services like dressing, changing, helping bathe or going to the bathroom, nothing that requires touching

  5. Application Process Phone intake call 908-526-4663- explain HomeSharing to confirm interest and fit; collect initial information (income and source, current housing situation, disabilities, amount charging or can pay in sharing expenses, interest in services, pets, smoking, etc.) Send or email HomeSharing application with: 3 personal references required know for at least a year, can t be family members, know them from different parts of their life

  6. Any professional referencesI.e., psychotherapist, psychiatrist, social worker, case manager or medical doctor in the case of someone with significant physical disability or health issue (determine person can live independently and is a good fit to live with someone in a roommate situation) Provide verification of income 2 recent pay stubs, social security award letter, pension verification letter, etc.

  7. Screening Process and Next Step Reference check--both personal and any professional references checked and criminal background databases check Interview goal is to learn more about applicant and their preferences to determine who may be a good fit for them Provide names of potential matches they reach out, meet them, let us know if they want to live together

  8. A Match Is Made! Provider and Seeker meet to complete Shared Living Arrangement (SLA), serves as contract for living situation Move in date set Set HomeSharing Phone Check in schedule (approximately one month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, one year) and available to troubleshoot or mediate any issues Ongoing living situation unless either party gives 30 days written notice or if guidelines are not followed and mediation is not working

  9. Accomplishments HomeSharing has made over 1,800 matches since inception Longest match currently 24 years Longest tenured Provider is 28 years Average one to five matches per month Maintaining 50 plus matches on ongoing basis
