ORGANISATIONAL BACKGROUND The Adventist Centre for Care and Support (ACCS) is a faith based non-governmental organization working in the field of supporting HIV/AIDS prevention activities and other related programs like Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), HIV Testing Services (HTS), Behavior Change, Youth Development Programs, and Ex-Prisoners Counseling and Rehabilitation Services. The Centre was officially opened on 31st August 2005 by Nairobi Central SDA Church as a social arm of the church and received certification as a Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Centre from National AIDS/STI Control Programme (NASCOP) in October 2005. The ACCS was further registered by the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Board of Kenya on 21st June 2006 as a national NGO and has been operational since.
ACCS MISSION AND VISION The Vision of ACCS is to be a Centre guided by Christian values and professionalism as it takes lead in supporting and facilitating the provision of care and support to the needy members of the society. The Mission of ACCS is to work with the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the society through relief development to enhance their capacity to improve their quality of life. ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE An 11-member governing board, which offers technical support, comprises of the following at the SDAC Nairobi Central: 3 serving church elders The Head of the Women Ministries (WM) The Head of the Adventist Men Organization (AMO) 2 female church congregants 2 youth representatives (a male and a female) 2 ex-officio members: current senior pastor & the Head Elder ACCS is headed by a CEO/Programmes Coordinator. It has a Finance Officer, 2 Project Officers, 2 M&E Officers, 2 Data Clerks, a Counselor / Case Manager and an Administrative Assistant. ACCS also has a community workforce comprising of 50 community health volunteers, 24 house hold facilitators, 12 mentors, 2 community mentor mothers

OVC PROGRAMME Health 186 Number of CLHIV s supported by ACCS through nutrition, health talks, adherence counseling. The Centre follows up on viral load monitoring and suppression 128 Number of care givers who are living positively and supported by ACCS. They form 7 support groups that meet once a month for peer support, and group adherence counseling

PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION Achievements Psychosocial Support ACCS ensures all the 3,929 OVC s live with an adult over 18 years and that no household is headed by a child. We also ensure that orphans have counseling support should and when the need arises. The orphans are home visited by a community health worker at least once in a quarter. The HIV positive are visited monthly and priority needs recorded and worked on. OVC selection criteria: that the child is infected or affected by HIV Below 18 years of age. one parent/or both parents died from HIV related complications.
PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION Achievements Social/legal /GBV Protection ACCS supports the following: provision of birth certificates for orphans facilitates provision of death certificates for the parents participates in succession planning for the children, facilitates NHIF especially to the HIV+ continuously creates awareness in the care giver and child on types and forms of GBV Ensure that preventions / reporting mechanisms are available to them in vases of GBV
PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION Achievements HIV Testing Services (HTS) ACCS is a stand-alone testing Centre, having been certified by NASCOP in 2005. An average of 11 clients are tested in a week. When an outreach activity is carried out, this number drastically increases, often to over 200 in a single day. The Centre is preferred by outside clientele, majority of whom claim to believe in our results, since it is a faith-based Organization
Referral and Linkages ACCS works in collaboration with different departments, to name a few: SDAC Nairobi Central - primary sponsor for all projects DREAMS Project Liverpool - referring to and from Department of Children Dagoretti North Sub-county Lea-Toto for CLHIV clients Riruta Health Centre for ailments and opportunistic infections Nairobi Women's / Mbagathi / Kenyatta National hospitals for GBV and rape/defilement cases Social Development Office for IGA registration Ministry of Health sub-county level for verification of CHV s and health related issues GOK Administration, especially chiefs and sub-chiefs, for the verification of birth certificate documents as well as for protection Department of Birth / Death civil registration
