  6. Draft Budget 2024/25 FAQs Answered question Please explain why council is spending $100 million on roads, but $204 million on staff wages. Where is the report to justify this Community Engagement Team Answer Thanks for your question. Council has a lot of competing needs for the allocation of funding, of which roads is one of many important services provided to the community. Details of Council s services which relate to operating services are detailed in pages 11-23 of the draft Annual Plan and Budget. Many of Council services require staff to operate including roads maintenance, open space, maternal and child health, kindergartens, school crossings, leisure centres, youth services with many of these customer facing services having increasing staff numbers over time based on community growth and external funding.

  7. Draft Budget 2024/25 FAQs How may contractors work for Council as it is not listed in the budget? Are their wages included in the $204 million? Community Engagement Team Answer Hi there, Thanks for your question. Council had over 5,000 active suppliers during the 2023/24 financial year, whose engagement by Council is subject to purchase orders, quotes or contracts in accordance with Council s procurement policy. The exact composition of suppliers for the 2024/25 year is not yet known, although there are some existing service contracts and capital contracts that will continue into the upcoming financial year. Most supplier and contract payments are in the materials and services expense line and the capital works program. A small amount of supplier/contractor expenses are in the wages line which mainly relates to training.
