The "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program is a self-directed initiative for caregivers and parents to log the books read to their children, promoting early literacy and fostering a positive family-library connection. Originating from Bremen Public Library, the program aims to instill a lifelong love for reading and encourage parent-child bonding, with resources available through a dedicated website, blog, and a free app. Various branches of the Gloucester County Library system, such as Mullica Hill, Logan, and Glassboro, actively engage in the program to cater to diverse communities and support language diversity. Staff involvement, incentives, and ongoing community engagement ensure the program's success.
