Section Number Section Number Syntax Syntax This new syntax will be used for curriculum class sections beginning 2021SU.
Advantages Advantages Simple Five fields give visibility: 1stField: Location of class section 2ndField: Delivery method 3rdField: Length of class and sense of start/finish 4thField: Section count 5thOptional Field: Other specific info staff may need, ex. Blended classes will begin with a letter indicating the physical meeting location, followed by S or A to indicate whether the online hours are synchronous or asynchronous. If a class begins online but will transition to the classroom in improved conditions, first field will be the physical meeting location after transition, followed by a T in the 2nd field.
Examples: MC = at OCH and all seated instruction PA = at Polkton andincludes unscheduled internet instruction OS = Online and is all scheduled internet OA = Online and is all unscheduled internet TS = at Tyson and has some scheduled internet instruction 7C = at Metrolina and is all seated instruction MT = at OCH eventually and will transition from scheduled online to the classroom when appropriate OM = Online and a mixture of unscheduled and scheduled internet instruction So the 1st and 2nd fields work together; both are needed to interpret the section information.
Note: Letters coincide with SPCC established mini-terms Examples: MCA = at OCH and seated, 16 weeks PAA = at Polkton andincludes unscheduled internet instruction, 16 weeks OSB = Online and is all scheduled internet, 1st 8 weeks OAC = Online and is all unscheduled internet, 2nd 8 weeks TSS = at Tyson and has some scheduled internet instruction, 12 weeks 7CA = at Metrolina and is all seated instruction, 16 weeks MTN = at OCH eventually and will transition from scheduled online to the classroom when appropriate, 4th 4 weeks OMC = Online and a mixture of unscheduled and scheduled internet instruction, 2nd 8 weeks
Examples: MCA6C = at OCH and all seated, 16 weeks, section 6, coreq-ed w/support course PAA1 = at Polkton and includes unscheduled internet instruction, 16 weeks, section 1 (doesn t use optional 5th field) OSB1 = Online and is all scheduled internet, 1st 8 weeks, section 1 (doesn t use optional 5th field) OAZ1T = Online and is all unscheduled internet, 1 week or less, Test out TSA1L = at Tyson and has some scheduled internet instruction, 16 weeks, section 1, open lab MTA2R = at OCH eventually and will transition from scheduled online to the classroom when appropriate, 16 weeks, section 2, Cross listed co-sat OMC1 = Online and a mixture of unscheduled and scheduled internet instruction, 2nd 8 weeks, section 1 (doesn t use optional 5th field) Notes: For Test Out, Independent Study, ITV sections, or any section that utilizes the 5th field, populate the first four fields using the same criteria as a section without the 5th field. For example, if an ITV section is seated at Polkton, and is 16 weeks, use PCA1V; however, if it has asynchronous instruction in addition to seated instruction, use PSA1V. If an Independent Study section meets with the instructor at Monroe with independent online work for 16 weeks, use MAA1N
